Update on new Downloads feature

plex-log-jonase-guitar.zip (910.4 KB)
Im on Android with Plex Version 8.28.0.30077 and i can’t download anything to my device using the download feature. It always says There was an error downloading this file. Swie to remove or tap to retry. 0.00Kb

I attached the log as well.

I tried to uninstall and reininstall plus cleaning the cache multiple times. Any idea what the problem can be?

Exact same problem. User with Plex Pass but no download button on all Apps.

You might want to double check if that Plex Pass you mentioned is on this account of yours or maybe another one. At least the forum doesn’t seem to recognize you having an active Plex Pass membership.

I see the error in your log. Unfortunately, it’s an “unknown error”. I’ve been trying tot rack this down for a while. You’re not the first to experience this.

@anon18523487 when i attempt to download my music library sometimes an already downloaded album is deleted and downloaded again, i opened a dedicated thread for this issue
https://forums.plex.tv/t/already-downloaded-music-albums-are-downloaded-again/763194

Good eye, its my dads account thats having the issue. He has Plex Pass and we are logged into his account on iPhone, im just trying to fix it for him. I just have the server.

@thndrss Did you enable the download feature for him on your server?

  • From Plex Web go to sharing page.
  • click on his user
  • go to “restrictions”
  • for “allow downloads” set to enable

Yea, and I deleted him and re-added him as a fresh user and selected allow downloads in that process as well.

Thanks for your answer @anon18523487,
is there any other additional debug option i can enable to track down the error.
To help getting that fixed and being able to use the feature soon?

Nope. I just have to go through all the logs and see if I can find anything to help reproduce the issue.

Downloads used to work pretty well for me (Android) but lately, it’s completely broken - nothing new will download and just says: “There was an error downloading this file. Swipe to remove or tap to retry.” - I retried many times, reset my phone app, updated and rebooted server, same issue.

I had to revert to Sync which still works thankfully.

Console didn’t have anything too obvious but I see this repeating even with Sync being used:

Error:
Unable to find client profile for device; platform=windows, platformVersion=10.0.19043, device=, model=Gecko

Please provide the full log file. That error about is for the Plex for Windows/Mac app, not Android so it’s not related.

Hi all
I also have some trouble by using the new download function.

My Plex server run under ubuntu (and is up to date with the latest .deb)
My client is and Ipad and a update the plex app version to the latest

I clean all the sync old files
I have a Plex pass valid

My symptoms :
On my local network, when selection a movie or an series part,
the transcodding work (CPU of the server increase)
the downloading start and progress (bit rate of server increase)
On IOS side the circle progress goes to 100%
But at the end I get the following message :

Error downloading this item "with a “!” in the right circle

I have a look in the xml file of the item but no “genre” was specified
I try tho perform a change in the DNS resolver of my Pfsense, and aloow “plex.direct”

Any idea to make “downloading” works ?

PS : No log error in the server side

Whenever I try to download something to my Android it stops immediately with “There was an error downloading this file” and a notification of “Some files could not be downloaded”

I have attached my logs from server and device
Plex Media Server Logs_2022-01-15_17-08-34.zip (1.4 MB)
plex-log-Preau.zip (309.0 KB)

Getting anywhere with this mate?

This is still not working reliablywith iOS beta 7.27 and server on qnap running
PlexMediaServer-1.25.4.5426-eb46d070e-x86_64.qpkg
i am using an AVM fritz box and i also used the DNS rebinding exception for plex.direct
and after spending some hours with a lot of reboots and reinstalls it works for a day and the next day it does not anymore.
is there anyhting i can do to help you fix this?
provide logs, etc?

Yes. Logs would be a good start. Both iOS and server logs please.

I’m brand new to Plex. I set up a server for music files and have the client on iOS. Downloads only work when the app is active and in the foreground and then they are veeeerrrrryyy slow. From the forums here and Reddit discussions, I take it I’m not alone.
What should my next steps be?
Is it possible to do a direct file transfer into the iPhone for the Plex app to access and sync?
