Update to latest version causing numerous issues

After installing the latest update on Windows 10 through the web interface:

  • No video file plays
  • Everything is marked as unwatched
  • Trying to access the server settings shows “Server settings are unavailable.”

Downloading the latest install and running repair as admin doesn’t solve any of these issues. Next step?

More:

  • The main page takes a long time to load when I go to http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html for the first time
  • I see “An unclaimed media server has been found on your network” message. Clicking “Claim it now” shows “Server settings are unavailable.”

Is there any way to roll back to the prior version without uninstalling and presumably losing all settings and watched episodes information?

The symptoms sound like you may have inadvertently created a second server. This would explain the watch history, the unclaimed server, and lack of access to server settings.

A possible reason could be that you’ve signed into it with different credentials than you originally used? It’s hard to say without actually putting hands on it, but hopefully that leads you down the right path for solving your issue.

Thanks for the reply. I only have one Plex account set up. The update and repair did not require a log out so I did not have to sign in again. Logging out now and signing in again does not seem to have any effect.

However when I click on the dropdown menu in the top left corner I see:
[Server name]
[Server name]
[Server name]
News
Podcasts [BETA]

All three server name entries are identical, with green padlocks beside them and going to the same URL.

Update: The three server name entries appear when I go through localhost. When I use https://app.plex.tv/desktop only one entry appears (with the same issues)

I finally was able to revert to Version 1.13.2.5142 and all my problems are gone.

With the latest Version 1.13.4.5271 (July 18, 2018) I was unable to go in server settings and unable to play anything on the web player (lot of transcoding error). I tried numerous things to no avail until simply revert to 1.13.2.5142 and now everything’s fine.
Plex has a serious issues with its last version that they have to acknowledge. :frowning:

Hi @petdud

What process did you use to downgrade?

I suspect not so much different plex.tv accounts , but different Windows user accounts.

Do you use more than one Windows user account?
If you use several Windows user accounts, do you not always log in the same user account first?
Plex server might be running under several different users, which then all have their own, individual server data.

If that is the case, you must ensure that Plex server only runs under one, defined Windows user account.
Always log on with the same windows user account first thing after a reboot.
Make sure that the Plex tray icon only appears under one Windows account. If it appears under other accounts as well, do a right-click on it and disable ‘Open Plex Server at Login’.

I only use one Windows account and there are no other user accounts set up on the PC.

Did you customize the location of the Plex data folder? If so, did you point it to the root folder of a separate drive letter?

To downgrade:

  • Stop/quit/end Plex Server with the tray icon
  • deinstall Plex Server with the regular ‘Apps’ control panel of Windows (do not use 3rd party ‘Uninstaller’ software like Revo etc.)
  • for safety, reboot Windows
  • download the installation exe of the newer version and install it

(If you want to install an older version of PMS, take a look into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Updates)

Yes, I customized it to point to D:\Plex Media Server

Settings - Server - General - ‘Show Advanced’ - “The path where local application data is stored”
put D:\ into there, instead of just D:
Afterwards you can update again.

If you haven’t downgraded yet, shut down Plex and edit the registry instead.

The key LocalAppDataPath is the one to edit and add the backslash \ to

Thank you! I started Plex after making the registry change, reclaimed the server, and everything is working again now.

@crash321 I’ve found the previous version there: https://www.downloadcrew.com/article/23858-plex_media_server

I had the SAME issue, and adding the " \ " in the registry fixed it!!! Thank you SO much!!! This has been bugging me all week!

I’ve been having similar lock ups and problems. I’m also downgrading to 5142 with the hopes that these problems go away. Just to throw my two cents in here.
