Updated from DSM6.2 to DSM7 - Unable to claim server

Server Version#: 1.24.1.4931 - installed manually

I tried to follow the migration process from 6.2 to 7:

  1. I uninstalled Plex
  2. I upgraded to DSM7
  3. I reinstalled Plex
  4. I was prompted with permission issues and followed directions from ChuckPa post to add Full Control to Plex folder for PlexMediaServer system internal user
  5. I added read/write permissions where media is stored
  6. I was unable to play media remotely or locally, even though my data appeared correctly
  7. I uninstalled Plex
  8. I reinstalled Plex following claim server token option
  9. Still couldn’t access data
  10. My frustration led me to delete plex folder and any data tied to it, I also deleted the plex user
  11. I now can’t claim my server or access any data on it while inside of my network

I am tempted to delete my account even though it states I can’t add it back for 1 month. At this point I would be fine registering my sever under a new email and server name unless someone can point me in the correct direction. Is it possible to do a fresh install even though it would have to catalog all of my data?

Thank you,

Tony

Check the DNS settings.

It can’t reach Plex.tv (name lookup failure)

Don’t burn the house down because you lose the keys

ChuckPa,

I love your comment, I prefer to burn the house down and struggle… then rebuild

However, I have not changed any DNS settings since upgrading to DSM7. Is there something I should be modifying or something I missed?

Also, I added the folder as suggested by trumpy81 and have attached that. I no longer have access to the plex server.

I shared the comment only because that’s what I just did with a NAS.

Something is wonky so I burnt it all down and am starting fresh… all 50TB of it LOL

The only things to check are:

  1. Default gateway setting in DSM
  2. DNS lookup provider IPs.

After that , PMS pulls from what DSM sets.

Default Gateway is set to my router
192.168.1.1

I do have more than 1 ethernet port plugged in but they all point to the gateway address. Currently, Default Gateway is pointing to LAN1, which is connected.

I have tried this and I am still locked out

I looked on Plex.tv. It looks like you soft-deleted the server (Authorized Devices)?

@trumpy81

I appreciate both of you trying to help me through this. I have changed the Load Balancing Settings and that fixed my local and remote issues, I believe. Unfortunately I am reloading data, most likely caused by me  and that is going to take some time. Only 20 TB so less than @ChuckPa, I need to up my game…

I am sorry for any extra time I have taken you both away from more important things. I really do appreciate the support! Considering subscribing to Plex Pass

Thank you again for the help!

Tony

Only 20TB?

Amateur hour!

I have 10GbE LAN here too. I play for keeps :smiling_imp:

whispers 96TB raw

@ChuckPa

I wanted to be provide an update to this thread with my experience in case anyone else runs into a similar thing. I had to uninstall Plex and reinstall one final time, I think I did this around 10 times total. This last time I was again prompted to map the folders where my files exist. I finally have access to all of my data and only have 1 issue.

For some reason, my server is showing twice. Whether using the app on my phone or going through the web/Roku/fire stick it shows the active server and the same thing as Offline. I continued to use the same name each time when reinstalling Plex. I am not sure if this is something I can fix and really doesn’t seem to cause any harm other than effecting my OCD.

If I may?

  1. https://app.plex.tv/desktop
  2. Settings - Authorized Devices - Server (dropdown)

This is where you can always delete those annoying servers you deleted.

I see what is happening in your account. Plex.tv thinks you have two servers with the same name (two different ID numbers).

Given you have one, I can clean it all up for you, With your permission, if you wish.

I can delete all the older ones — leaving only the newest one.

Would this work ?

ChuckPa, that would be great if you can delete the old one. Do you need anything from me in order to do that? If not, feel free to delete whenever time allows.

Thank you!

@agorski21682_gmail_com

I have cleaned up the two orphaned instances.

Now,

  1. Restart PMS
  2. Close and reopen the browser

Life should be good

Life is good. Thank you again ChuckPa and @trumpy81
