Upgraded to DSM 7.0, Playback Error

After migrating to DSM 7, unable to play media. “Playback Error. Please check that the file exists and the necessary drive is mounted.”

Go to each of your shared folders containing media;

  1. Control Panel - Shared Folders
  2. EDIT the shared folder
  3. Permissions tab
  4. Change “Local Users” → “System Internal User”
  5. Grant “PlexMediaServer” (the application) permission to read/write.
  6. Save

Control Panel - Shared Folders - Video share - Action

Look at “Convert to Windows ACL”

If available - click it. It will repair the ACLs

After it repairs, assign permissions again.

The “video” shared folder is owned by DSM.

finally I did it. not by repairing ACL, but by enabling “Advanced Share Permissions”
