Upgraded TV Library painfully slow scanning

Server Version#:1.24.4931
Player Version#:4.64.3

I finally succumbed to the nagging ‘Upgrade Libraries’ prompt in the PMS activity listing and after a day of rebuilding, refreshing and rescanning I had what I thought would be the promised ‘Turbo-charged’ library. It does seem that metadata is indeed loaded more quickly, however the library scanning and therefore the detection of need to load new metadata is painfully slow…

I have a library of 1074 shows with some 3891 seasons and 53660 episodes. The old agent used the scan the library in about 7 minutes the new one takes 2.5 hours! I tried to revert back to old agent but found that it incorrectly found different episodes of the same show to be duplicates of each other. I could not see a way to fix that so I went through the process of upgrading once again in the hope that the scanning speed would be faster second time round. It wasn’t.

The shows follow the naming conventions suggested by Plex, other than the library is divided into 4 section alphabetically so that I don’t have to scroll through 1000 plus show to get to the XYWs, i.e. folder TV1 has shows beginning with numbers through to M, folder TV2 has shows beginning with N through to S and so on. I can’t see why this would cause the scanner to be slow and it certainly wasn’t the case for the old on.

I have the PMS running on a Mac Mini M1 with the latest update of Big Sur. The media is on two Synology NASs one DS918+ and one DS916+, both with the latest DSM 7. The dives are set to auto-mount. The Mac mini is a very good host for the PMS and I realise that using mounted network drives means that the PMS cannot detect charges in the file system automatically, but I would have thought that once a scan is initiated the system should be able to scan for changed or additional media rather than do a deep scan every time which appears to be the case for me. Particularly as I have the ‘Run a partial scan when changes are detected’ option ticked in the Plex Library settings.

Generally I like to keep my software up to date, but the new library agent does not seem to offer anything worthwhile and is annoying slow and as I said reverting back to the old agent is problematic. Any suggestions?
