I’m currently using a WD 8Tb external hard drive to store my media and play on plex through Nvidia shield pro. The problem is I’ve filled it up and am now trying to upgrade it to a WD 18Tb elements hard drive. The Nvidia shield recognises the drive but I can’t get it to run on plex. I formatted the drive to Fat32, I have the proper folders installed on the drive. I just can’t get it to run from the plex settings. So what am I doing wrong?
have you been following the instructions on how to connect your drive from this support article?
Yes i did, all the appropriate files were installed on the drive, I created the same media sub folders. But when i go to plex either on the Nvidia shield or the web i cant get the drive to run. Is it posible The WD 18Tb Elements drive is just not compatible? I dont really see how it could be that though.
I’m just going through the support article I had linked above.
- The Shield does not support FAT32… you’ll need to format your drive as exFAT or NTFS (I suppose you have no HFS+ formatted drives)
- Once you connect the Elements – does your shield show a notification that a new drive has been found?
- what option did you select (internal or removable storage)?
You’ll only be able to access the HDD from within Plex after the Shield has properly recognized the HDD and you confirmed it’s properly setup in the Shield’s Storage & reset area.
I don’t see why the drive itself should not be compatible.
Sorry, i ment FAT32, it originally was NTFS but i read somewhere it works better with a FAT32 format so i did that. I just reformatted it to NTFS and plugged it into my Nvidia, but im not getting the screen to let me choose removable or internal storage.
do you see the drive in your Shield settings?
Settings > Device preferences > Storage
