User Account not working on Apple TV

I have a challenging issue, that my OWN account cannot access my Plex Server anymore on Apple TV. I can also not open any other servers that are shared with me on Apple TV.

If I use any other account that has access to my server on the SAME Apple TV it works.
Any other players and devices are no issue.

Maybe i can share some troubleshooting i did on my end with the dev team:
I tried it on the newest and second newest Apple TV hardware.

It does not work on either and for my own server (local and remote) it would say “unavailable”.
For foreign servers it says “direct connection unavailable”.

I did try it on 2 different networks and ISPs. So its not a DNS issue.
I tried it on both those networks with the LG client, iphone, ipad → all work.

HOWEVER: If i use the same apple TV boxes and log in to that exact same server with the account of a family member (non local account but through sharing) IT WORKS.

Other people with accounts can also connect to the server.

So this might not be an issue with Apple TV but rather with specific accounts of users?
My guess would be some certificate issue, because on Apple TV it seems that you cannot enable insecure connections?

  • Plex was reinstalled
  • The Apple TVs have been reset completely
  • Cache on server has been deleted
  • Server has been unregistered and registered again to the useraccount

Apple TV Log shows nothing else than 1 line: HTTP Error 504: Error accessing Plex Media Server (NSURLErrorDomain) Could not connect to the server. (-1004).

Conclusion:
It has to be something tied to a specific user account AND using AppleTV

I had a similar behaviour. Turns out for me the problem was with my username.

Works again now. Most recent server update fixed the issue :slight_smile:
