Currently my wife and kids log onto our PMS using my email address.
Once logged in they create on their profile/name which then have the elevate media share attached,
Can’t believe thats the right way,
Can someone explain, I would think each of them should have a email address based profile with a password, to which I can assign what media is available, with what restrictions.

This is the difference between “managed users” and “Plex Friends”.
You are currently using “managed users” for your family.
This is the normal way, particularly when you want your family to get some of the benefits of your Plex pass.
On “personal player devices” (e.g. a mobile phone or the tv in the Kid’s room), you definitely don’t need to login daily and switch to the right member of your Plex home. There’s the preference called “automatic logon”, which when activated will remember the last-used user name.
For web browsers it is crucial to tell them in their preferences to NOT throw away the cookies for the domain plex.tv between sessions.
Of course you can also use full plex.tv accounts. But as explained above, then these accounts get less of your Plex pass benefits.
One thing I want to mention, is that you MUST log in as the admin account if you want to enable the option to “Automatically sign in”. Once enabled, you can then swap to another user account and it will sign into that user automatically.
For some reason this checkbox is NOT available when logged in as a managed user.
This is fully intentional. Otherwise a child could enable the option unbeknownst to the admin.
