Using Audio Devices With More Than Two Outputs On PlexAmp Mac

Using Plexamp 4.5.3 on MacOS Ventura 13.0.1 on a Mac Studio. I have an audio device (Tascam Model 12 connected via USB-C) which has 10 output channels. I used the Audio MIDI Setup app to “Configure Speakers…” for this audio device and mapped channel 9 to the Left Speaker and channel 10 to the Right Speaker. All other audio generated on my Mac works fine with this setup, web browsers, spotify, Apple Music, sound effects generated by the operating system, etc.

Plexamp seems to ignore the speaker configuration and insists on sending audio to channels 1 and 2, instead of to the configured channels 9 and 10.

I can confirm that Plexamp works on other audio devices that only have 2 channels, and it works on the Tascam Model 12 device, but it ignores the channel/speaker map.

I’m not sure if this is a bug or a feature request. I think it’s a bug. I’ve never seen another app besides Logic that doesn’t use the channel/speaker maps created in Audio MIDI Setup, but it has it’s own configuration tools to accomplish the same task. Plexamp has no such tools.

So maybe I’ll start by asking is anyone else able to use Plexamp on channels other than 1 and 2 on multi-channel audio devices?

I do not have a multi speaker setup, but I thought I would ask that you have visited

Settings → Playback → Audio Output → Audio Device

and things look correct there?

Yes, things look correct there. I have multiple audio devices on this Mac, and I can choose a simple two output USB device and everything plays fine. I can also chose my multi-output device and the sound plays fine if I use Audio Midi Setup to configure the speakers for channels 1 and 2.
