From my understanding, you can reorder the channels and move them up/down the list by doing something on the VBox device (see the arrows/Order LCN in my top image of the VBox channel listing above. I have simnply accepted the VBox listing and left it unchanged as I had no reason to change what I didn’t see the need to.
You will notice in the listing (above) that channel #1 and channel #10, are both the exact same channel (10HD). To my understanding, channel #4 is the same as channel #25 (7 Sydney); #5 and #32 (Channel 9) are the same too. I’m pretty sure that they are the only duplicates in the listing.
No that’s all wrong. That’s not how it works for plex association. As I explained in our support discussion, Moving the order is fine, but this has no bearing on the pull association to plex. Plex order is not connected to VBox order. The VBox order only works for the VBox apps or other DLNA players, which Plex does not use. Any duplicate will screw up the plex stream connection. Please turn off.
Here is an example of a SAT in NZ. As you can see, the duplicates are un checked or it makes plex fail.
It’s also important to note, that 7HD Sydney is still 7 Sydney so you must choose HD or non HD but only one - like Highlander
I can see you have these issues for 10, (LCN 11 and 15) and others that have been failing.
I’m not home at present but will deal with this in @ 4~5 hrs time.
From my reading above, I should select the best of each channel in the VBox channels list and untick other instances of the same channels in the list. In this regard, I’ll select Channel 7HD (in preference over Channel 7; and Channel 9HD in preference over Channel 9); I’ll go through the whole VBox channel listing, selecting one instance only of each channel then do a reset of the Plex DVR so it only finds one instance only of each channel in the VBox channels output.
Hopefully, this will solve the problems being experienced.
I’ll make the changes and post results just as soon as I can.![]()
sorry I am back now.
The linkage between xmltv epg and channel id for tuning is worked out this way:
xmltv epg entry had this:
<channel id="7.yourtv.com.au">
<display-name>Channel Seven Sydney</display-name>
<lcn>7</lcn>
<icon src="http://img-store-prod.switch.tv/images/97a82abc-ca3c-49e1-97ac-f2b5d785f9ab/7.png" />
</channel>
The response from vbox dvr to Plex Media Server to list the channels and their tuning ID’s is obtained through this request:
http://192.168.0.115:55555/devices/vbox-4952/channels
For the channel that maps to xmltv epg lcn=7 we have this in the response from vbox dvr
<Channel drm="0" channelIdentifier="7 Sydney" name="7 Sydney(" number="7" type="tv" triplet="1013:0502:0520"/>
and this “7 Sydney” then gets used for tuning - with the space escaped 7%20Sydney
So Plex Media Server is working correctly and the issue is with what it gets from the vbox - which is either a vbox issue or a user configuration issue
Looking at other related channel entries in the response from the vbox - we have 3 different channels - I do not know which triplets are the working ones - but it needs the epg xmltv to map to the working ones - so it appears they are lcn’s 7, 70 and 71
(This was from an old response I had from @Rhubarb_home )
<Channel drm="0" channelIdentifier="7 Sydney" name="7 Sydney(" number="7" type="tv" triplet="1013:0502:0520"/>
<Channel drm="0" channelIdentifier="7HD Sydney" name="7HD Sydney" number="70" type="tv" triplet="1013:0502:0524"/>
<Channel drm="0" channelIdentifier="7 Sydney_1" name="7 Sydney" number="71" type="tv" triplet="1013:0502:0521"/>
This fits, as the multiple channels with the same name is screwing up the connection. He is trying my solution, so lets see what he gets.
No success so far - so I think we need more debugging:
6:20 PM Reset DVR
I have used the following VBox_3442 Channel settings and matched against PlexDVR ProgramGuide:
All channels marked in RED and matched against VBox_3442 selected channels list still failed to play with the Playback error.
I’ll upload a new copy of the error debug log.
Plex Media Server Logs_2022-07-26_20-10-26.zip (4.9 MB)
AS I was doing this test I realised that Channel 37/97(Extra), 11/16(TVSN), and 12/17(SpreeTV) seem to be general shopping channels and not something I care about - so why bother with them. But WE are still not resolving the problems with the other Channels also marked in RED., the Channel 7 group and the Channel 9 group.
Perhaps something will come out of the logs?
I have already given my findings - please continue to investigate with vbox and @llo36 - nothing in what I looked at points to a Plex issue - so no need for my time anymore
If you change the vbox Channel configuration or xmltv configuration, a guide refresh in Plex server DVR settings would be needed
Thanks SA2000, yes I realise that. I’m sure tha @ll036 will get back to you, if necessary.
Hi Rhubarb,
It appears to be a mapping issue from what I can see in the recent logs. Can you use VLC to confirm the url to 7 Sydney ( I want to focus on getting one working to identify the issue), and post that url here? Once you have that url, please confirm with a screenshot the LCN on the VBox.
I suspect the mapping is the issue and suggest maybe a remote session to run a test is in order? Can you set this up? Please respond with the details to the support system, not in here for security reasons.
Thanks @llo36, responding separately, as requested.
Please do keep this thread updated with findings, @Rhubarb_home & @llo36
Like I said before I’m pretty sure I’m having the same issue
Thanks
I will post the confirmed solution when resolved. If not resolved, I will continue the diagnostics here. Schedule for solution testing is Tuesday next week.
Quick question to everyone, have you tried the channels with the new plex player on the plex app, or are you using the old player? If you have not changed it you will be on the new player. This is unlikely related to the full channel matching issue, but I did have today a situation were an Apple TV could not stream live tv without switching to the new player, they had been using the old for compatibility with mkv videos ripped from DVD’s they owned.
Switching to the new player solved the live tv. It may be related, which is why I mention it, because of the encoding by TV stations of HD channels. Please test and come back to me if this assist any channels?
I do think that the mapping is still an issue, but if the mapping is right and playback still fails, this may be a second problem causing a false negative where it’s actually working, but the player cannot play the stream. I am interested in findings as I have been able to reproduce on my testbed.
Using the different players doesn’t change anything for me unfortunately
Hi @nickelslol,
we’ve organised to test further on early next Tuesday morning, Sydney-time.
Thanks for that. Can you send me logs and screenshots to our support email at support@adonistechnology.lgrtech.com
How did the testing go, any success?
We seemed to strike obstacles with everything we tried. Because my NAS was in the process of creating a storage pool & volume, it was decided that we should not do a shutdown/restart to reset processes to enable further diagnosis of issues. We’re planning further testing in next couple of days now that disk activity is back to normal.
