I am writing this post simply because I need to VENT about Plex.
Plex has been a saving grace in more ways than I can imagine. It has truly transformed my life, along with many others. That being said, it has also driven me crazy several times. I write this after Plex auto-refreshed my entire movie library (for the 10th time in total) and re-scanned EVERYTHING from scratch. AGAIN.
All my tags (that I worked very hard to correct and make perfect) - are GONE. New random-ass collections exist, the genres are wonky, some movies decided to combine with each other, posters changed and playlists gone too. That took me weeks and weeks to get right, and now I have to start over. For the love of God, why is this happening? How can I prevent it? Is there an app I can use to make my tags permanent and attached to the file? It simply takes me too much time to start over every 4 months - please help.
On another note, I use the Apple TV app and would love it if Plex made some upgrades to it. I think it’s time to:
- Get a new look and feel
- Fix the “Reload” issue and how the app freezes, forcing you to swipe and shut the app and start over
- Customize the dashboard so you can feature your favorite collections and genres
- Find a way to let us search for movies with a combination of genres (e.g. I want to search for an ACTION + COMEDY)
- A way to let us Like, dislike, or add to queues/playlists/collections FROM the apple tv itself
- Ability to recommend content to users you share libraries with (whether it’s a show, a movie or a playlist/collection)
- Fun features like “I’m Feeling Lucky” which is basically like a Shuffle button… but more of a way to help people choose what to watch next. It could be a tinder-like titles game where you pick which one you would rather. This one is a bit out there, but choosing what to watch next is a big struggle.
- Better subtitle support; possibly a search engine where you can manually hunt for subtitles on the file you’re about to play
I don’t know if anyone will read this or do anything about it, but I had to get it out of my system.
