I’ve found that you can still ‘cast’ from a mobile device running the Plex app on the local network to the TV. I did that for a few days before reverting to the public release version.
I know that @Orca does not support this app anymore… but he could just see if there is an simple way to solve this problem.
I use samsung app a lot… i am unable to downgrade my pms version on my linux seedbox. It´s very frustanting.
Hope that plex devs can solve this problem

Braz.
Oh I’m totally with ya, man. I am.
I’m only saying that if he was to revisit it that “one last time”, I’d vote on it being to deobfuscate the JavaScript and upload it to Github. He’d never have to worry about it again.
Once more eyes can be put on it, quite a lot can be fixed. We could probably even add in Live TV and other newer wiz bang stuff.
I have preferred and disable weak tls unchecked and hitting this with an older samsung TV.
Using latest Public channel on linux via docker images ( 1.19.2.2673 ).
Using 2.0.12 version
Any other solution for us using docker to roll back?
Please open source the code @orca
Edit: for anyone else using the Linux server Plex images I found that 1.19.1.2645 works (docker pull linuxserver/plex:1.19.1.2645-ccb6eb67e-ls89) and make sure the ENV variable VERSION is set to “plex” so it doesn’t update.
Pinning that version means my old Samsung TV now works again!
My seedbox service does not allow downgrade the version
Plex is looking into this, but neither ETA nor outcome can be determined at this time, so stay tuned
Having the same problem with 1.19.2.2673. Worked fine before.
Thanks, Plex, for looking into this. In times like these, Plex is our lifeline at home.
I appreciate that this is being investigated. It would be great if future PMS version do not render the @Orca app non-functional
Note the following:
- Plex doesn’t do this on purpose
- It’s a PP release, and as such, where stuff like this is supposed to be found, and hopefully fixed
- Orca client is a no longer maintained 3.Party app, and as such, do not expect Plex to test that, nor any other 3.Party stuff…There’s a reason why it’s 3.Party
- Note that the platforms the Orca client runs under, are OLD!
- As such, they most likely do not support new protocols, and even if the SW was to be made open, it still would not, since that’s the OS of the platform (Samsung)
Note that the platforms the Orca client runs under, are OLD!
I think your definition of “old” is different than most people. I have zero interest in replacing a perfectly working TV just because it’s ~4 years old. My TV is not “old”.
The points about this “not being Plex’s problem” only loosely stand. It’s not their app, technically, but alienating their paying customers is their “problem”. They could release an app for our TV, but have chosen not to.
@Orca 's app, from what I can read of it, honestly doesn’t look overly complex. I’m sure the devs at Plex know the API waaaaaaay better than any of us and can whip something together super quick with very little time invested.
(or Plex themselves could reach out to @Orca directly to get an unobfuscated version of his/her app then fix and release that to Samsung)
Just my two cents.
LOL, and maybe, but the last models that Orca’s client suported, was 2015 models.
In the last 4-5 years, a lot has happened security wise, demanding newer ciphers and protocols, and the “older” models from Samsung has not received those updates. (And no idea if it’s a Samsung policy, or simply because the HW used back then simply doesn’t support it?
They are not alienating their customers, since if they where, they would not look into this!
That’s the plan, if possible, but without compromise security of the current, and supported apps
Thank you @dane22 for the info!
Let´s hope that can be fixed soon

Braz
This also worked for me. UN65JS8000
What was weird is that on 2673 the app would start and the left menu was there, but nothing on the right.(normally the on deck and stuff). If I clicked on the “Movies” or “TV Shows” on the left menu, I went into the full library and could get to shows/movies that way.
Now back on 2645 and the standard Samsung app is working. I do not have (or even knew about) the Orca app. Gonna have to research it or if someone has a link to it, that would be great. I know it is not updated anymore.
Jikes, I never accused anyone of breaking functionality on purpose. Sorry if my post was so badly worded to cause grief.
However, I cannot agree that the pre-Tizen Samsung TVs are OLD! Large appliances normally do not need replacing after only 5 years. In fact, in my 3rd world country, there is no 4K television broadcasting. Fibre penetration is low, so 4K streaming is not commonplace. I am very happy with my full HD TV at the moment, 5 years old or not.
I understand that the @Orca client is no longer maintained, but I don’t understand why. It seems that there may be some bad blood or internal politics at play here, not so much the age of the TVs…
Anyway, I’m holding thumbs that the old app will continue to work for the foreseeable future, otherwise I will be forced to stop updating PMS. This then creates all sorts of other hassles, including that at some point in the future, the Android Client and other Client apps will receive an update that necessitates an updated PMS. Then everything will unravel for my viewing pleasure
Thanks for your post @Deesef
This is intresresting… I am in the same boat. The internet connection where i live sucks and i don´t have a 4K TV because my FullHD samsung tv is working well. They should not only think in high tech users but also in all types of users. About security issues they should give us… users the power to decide which kind of security level we want in our servers.
I only have samsung tv and appletv players and now both of them are with some kind of playing issues. Pleople that i share my server also uses samsung tvs. if i can´t have access with this devices there is no point to use PMS.
I really hope that someone in plex is taking care of this issue.
Hope this can be fix really soon!
Thank you!
Braz.
I bought my TV last year, UN49RU7100.
Shared libraries won’t show up on my Samsung tv, but it shows up on my iPhone (on the same network).
I can’t airplay from iPhone’s Plex app to the TV, but I can airplay from everything’s else.
I’m just starting on Plex, so I might have done something wrong, but right now I’m very frustrated with it due to this issue and the iPad subtitles issue.
Hi @dbpetry!
Are you using latest PMS? Maybe this is it… You have to rollback your server version.
I have to agree with the thought that a 5 year old TV is not really that old. I understand the security and other things but after all one of the things that is appealing about PLEX is having control of your library and not someone else. Along with that is my ability to view that library on what I choose and not have it dictated to me by a third party (DRM flashbacks anyone?). I certainly hope that PLEX is NOT going down the Apple and Microsoft path of planned obsolescence of hardware.
With that said I really hope a fix is in the works for this cause this would seriously get me to start thinking about alternatives and I really don’t want to do that considering my environment has been so awesome for the past few years!
Please think of a SmartTV as a computer with a build-in screen, when it comes to apps.
(Like a cellphone)
Nope, and Orca did post the sad reason, which was due to health problems
So why plex just roolback this security change? Or give us users the option to allow / disalow this security option?
