I’m new here so a big HELLO to everyone.
I hope y’all doing good today.
I hope that I have posted in the correct area of the forum. If not please will you tell me where best to post it? Thx.
I am encountering some very jerky playback with numerous local video files and formats on my computer.
My media is located on the same computer my PLEX Media Server is installed on.
My computer is a DELL Inspiron 15 Gaming Edition which has the following system specifications:
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700HQ Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.50 GHz)
HDD: 512GB NVMe SSD
RAM: 16 GB DDR4-2400
GPU1: Intel HD Graphics 530
GPU2: Nvidia GeForce GTX960m 4GB RAM
NIC1: Intel Dual Band Wireless AC3165
NIC2: Realtec PCIe GBE
When using either the PLEX web player or PLEX’s own media player the playback is very jerky. CyberLinks Power DVD 15 and WMP Classic’s playback is very smooth indeed. And surprisingly when I am playing media to the PLEX app on my 4K UHD TV the playback is a lot smoother. Not as smooth as the Cyberlink and WMPC though.
I have the local quality in PLEX server set to original.
I do not have much in the way of experience with PLEX yet and have only been using it for a couple of weeks so I dont know my way around all the settings yet.
I think what I am asking for is advice on which settings I need to check to ensure I get the smoothest playback I can with the hardware I have both locally and on my TV. (I have no need for the remote playing of media from outside my local network)
All my computers and TV’s I have on my network are all connected through a Gigabit LAN switch. (I rarely use wireless).
I hope that I have provided enough information for you all. Please ask me if you need anything else. Oh… many of my files are 2 and 4K mkv videos. It’s usually the 4k ones for which I am experiencing the jerky playback.
So if any of you would be able to spare a moment of your time to help me in my mission to get smooth playback I would be very grateful indeed.
Many thanks in advance.
