Videos NOT COVERING WHOLE SCREEN on OnePlus 8 Pro

One plus 8 Pro user - came here to say im getting the same issue - any updates?

@anon18523487 Could you please give us an update? It’s been almost 5 months now, and I’m surprised the issue hasn’t even been reported to have been discussed by the developers.

Hello, same problem here on a Pixel 5.
Can we please have an update?
Thank you!

We plan to add support for displaying behind the cutout on various devices, we don’t however have a time on when this will be added.

Pixel 5 user hear experiencing the same issue. Looking for an update. Please refer to the youtube app as it does exactly what we are asking for. Please ignore punch hole and/or notch when in full screen mode.

For everyone who’s having the same issue and coming across this post now,
It is my honest opinion that this is not something that’s gonna get fixed anytime soon by the Plex team. We have no way of knowing when it will be fixed anyway. This is judging from Plex’s track record of not dealing with bugs and issues for a really really long time (which imo the devs would like to be able to fix, unfortunately, they’re not the ones in the driver’s seat - this is a sentiment that has been expressed on the forums here anyway).

However, if you have this issue yourself, please post a comment on this thread so that the chance that the devs come back to fix this still lives on.
Despite being a rather trivial issue imo, it still is annoying every once in a while when I notice less than a centimeter of your phone’s vertical screen height not being used to display my media.

Pixel 4a owner here, was disappointed to find that this was not implemented already when I got the phone. Really hoping the devs fix this quickly.

Pixel 5 user here with same issue. Really spoils the experience of watching content on the phone. Seems like it’s such a simple thing to fix, it’s disappointing that they haven’t managed to sort it in the 6 months since it was first raised here.

still no fix yet?

Still nothing on the latest beta. I don’t understand why. Something so simple

@pluxology It’s EXACTLY* as if they don’t care

To keep this thread alive: Pixel 4a 5G user here, and Plex still does not use the “status/notification” area when in Zoom mode, leaving a black bar at the top as described and pictured by others. Looks doubly ridiculous because it gladly expands into the “back, home, task manager” button area (as it should), so the video has fairly rounded corners at the bottom and sharp corners where it meets the “status/notification” area.

I have the same problem with the pixel 5.

Please see Videos NOT COVERING WHOLE SCREEN on OnePlus 8 Pro.

Having just received my Pixel 5 I can also confirm that this is a rather irritating issue. Any hints as to when it’s likely to be fixed?

Hello there,
Pixel 5 user here, same problem; I have posted in the other topic as well.
I understood they are working on it but no timeline was given.
It would be good to give us something, even if it’s only a time frame like 2-4 months @anon18523487

Plex doesn’t provide ETAs. Sometimes we will mention something when a feature is about to be released, but not much ahead of time.

Really disappointed that this simple issue has not been addressed.

Hi there, I just got my Pixel 5 delivered today, one of the main reasons I went for it in the end was the edge-to-edge symmetrical thin border of the screen. So you can imagine my crushing disappointment when I discovered this exact issue.

I’ve been looking into this and it’s apparently a more widespread issue, as even Google apps such as maps don’t use fullscreen - it’s something to do with the punch-hole camera, but the fact that even native Google apps don’t work with it is rather disconcerting! Apparently only YouTube and Netflix work with it when using the ‘pinch to zoom’ feature.

Considering I upgraded from my Pixel 3 XL I’m rather underwhelmed with the whole performance of the 5, the only useful thing was extra storage but this awful black bar issue, which ruins the main unique feature of the 5, is a showstopper for me.

Will be returning it tomorrow. Hope you guys find some luck in the form of a workaround (the cutout dev options are awful), or an update from Google, but I’m out and will wait for the Pixel 6 and see if they’ve learned some lessons.

I understand what you’re saying, but the point is it’s not just Plex, there are countless apps which when in landscape mode it ‘boxes off’ the section of the screen where the camera punch hole is - this has been discussed at length in the Google forums, here is an example:
