I installed Plex Media Server and it is working perfectly.
On my my Samsung and LG TV it immediately showed up as a sort of shared network drive or media library called “Plex Medi Server localhost” right next to my Sonos speakers which list there also in the same way.
This gave me hope that I can access files/videos made accessible throuth Plex Media Server on my TVs natively without using any app.
Unfortunately, I reinstalled Plex Media Server and now it doesn’t show up on both my TVs an more.
Question is: What is this kind of listing? How can I get it back? What protocoll is this and can I stream videos through that to my (older) TVs without using any app?
Thank you for you support and sorry if this is somehwere in the manual. I tried to look for it
This can be done to some degree using Plex’ built-in DLNA server. IIRC this is disabled by default these days and it’s getting disabled if you switch on a Plex Home (given the Plex DLNA server cannot distinguish different users).
You can activate the server under Settings > [Server Name] > DLNA > Enable DLNA server.
There’s some limitations when it comes to DLNA as it’ll e.g. not transcode your files – so all you get is native / direct streaming of compatible files.
Works, thank you!!
Now I only have to figure out why it is working perfectly on Windows and it doesn’t on my Nvidia Shield… but I suppose that is another issue…
