Was the original Top Gun made in a parallell universe? My Plex server thinks so

I was looking at the cast of the original Top Gun in my plex library, I saw Tim Robbins’ face there. I know I also have Shawshank, but I couldn’t think of something else I had seen him in recently and had in my library (Was thinking of Tenacious D). To my suprise, after clicking on him the only film shown is Top Gun. That can’t be right, I have the two mentioned as well as Anchorman and War of the Worlds.

So I click Tom Cruise, same thing, only Top Gun! NO WAY!

Every actor in the original Top Gun, when clicking on them appears to have only ever been in Top Gun according to my library, and when clicking on them from other movies, Top Gun is not present.

This is not an issue that matters, but was wondering why that would be the case? They are all in the same library, I only have the one.

I would try refreshing metadata on the whole library. In most cases, it will update the actor info and show the proper and expected results. Plex made some changes in the way it gathers or stores some metadata a while ago, and sometimes existing items in a library are not updated automatically.

Unless the entire library is updated you will remain in a state of limbo, some entries using the old metadata storage, and others using the new format. You need to update the entire library to standardize on the new format. As the OP found out and marked it resolved.
