Watched Checkmark VS Unwatched Orange Corner

I don’t understand why it is such a problem to fix this.
The logic is clearly there because you can see that flag reflected on a video detail page.
They just need to reproduce the yellow dots using that logic.
I suspect they might already fixed it but did not want to do another release just for this.
If someone from Plex confirmed it is fixed or in progress. and waiting to be released that would be great.

Because they don’t want to change it; it’s not a technical issue, it’s a philosophical UI change they are forcing on us. They must have had some business reason to put the man-hours into changing it in the first place, otherwise why bother? And If they were open to reversing it or giving us the option they would have at least commented on the issue by now, but they’ve avoided several direct questions about it over the last year. In contrast they have been responsive regarding bugs related to this change (e.g. counters missing from TV show seasons).

In fact the only change they have made from this feedback is the option to turn OFF checkmarks completely - that in itself seems to be confirmation that unwatched markers are never coming back. “You can have watched markers, or you can have nothing,” is what plex is telling us by their actions.

How do you explain “unwillingness to change” on Apple TV client only.
It works on browser version, iOS version for me.
I don’t hear complains from other platforms.

They are rolling out the change slowly over time, and those platforms have apparently not had the change yet. Apple TV only got the change a few months ago, but other platforms got it last year (see the beginning of this thread in Sep 2023).

Y’all may as well quit. According to the latest beta Android TV update, the last vestiges of unwatched indicators have been removed and marked as “redundant”.

No going back on this for Plex.

yeah that has been clear for some time now, but I will not quit. going to keep this thread open until I finally migrate to jellyfin or something.

That’s not what that release note is referring to. Each client has had a similar release note but their descriptions are a bit different. This note is basically about showing the unwatched count twice, once on the poster if the indicator option is set and again under the title of the item, thus being “redundant” information. This was also mentioned on Reddit.

First time poster here… Stupidly updated my clients and now I am disgusted with the new UI… Why can’t you morons just leave shiet alone… Give us the options to keep Plex as we had it, with a great UI that actually worked…

PLEASE put this back!! Or if you insist that this is somehow more visually pleasing to whoever had this idea, give us the option to turn it on or off. That way everyone wins. This is absolutely horrible that it would be put in, community feedback IGNORED and move on.

This topic is NOT solved! This solution doesn’t work for me!

How do I see the unwatched orange triangle for unwatched items in my media movie library?

PLEASE put back in the unwatched orange corner triangle.

They added the option to turn it off per library type. You can find it under your account settings. I have mine set to show watched status on TV Show libraries but not Movies.

Edit: Details about this information is in the “Solved” comment linked at the top of the thread but is easy to miss if jumping in the middle of the thread since there’s so many posts.

why anyone thinks this is a better look than a couple unwatched flags is beyond me. :face_vomiting:

I don’t think that I said I think it’s “better” so I assume you’re just commenting in general about it.

“Am I caught up on that show?” and “How many episodes left” at least make sense to me for TV shows where things are serialized and releasing on a regular cadence. That’s why I left it on for my TV Shows.

What throws me off now is that my TV show collections have no marker at all now…

As for movies, I can appreciate someone’s perspective - a completionist’s perspective - to seeing things marked as “done” when browsing content so they’d be happier with how it is now than it was before; it’s just not my perspective and I have my own logical arguments but they go back to preferences still (again - see some of my earlier comments in this thread if you care for details).

And then there are the vast majority of folks that just don’t care either way. These forums are a very small subset of the user base after all. Most of Plex’s users just don’t care either way I’m sure.

Either way, this topic is definitely got sides to it so I don’t expect it to die off anytime soon - even the fireside chat thread has it coming up regularly. If we get some more options then that’ll be nice too.

This change just arrived on my AppleTV, and it is an unwelcome one. It seems very counterintuitive and has really pissed off the family. They’re demanding I “fix” it. I hope Plex listens on this one.

correct.

This is a super accurate statement. I end up being the one that has to explain why Plex made a change and there are many times that I don’t have a good answer. They totally equate Plex = Me.

I think it’s logical to assume that average users far outnumber server owners. I would also think that more server users frequent the forums than those average users. Personally, I believe that I’m here advocating for them as are many of you.

So, while it’s true that the number of users that show up here to participate are a fraction of the whole… It’s also likely that they’re representing greater numbers.

I invite everybody to come to the Plex Fireside Thread and demand the unwatched triangles back instead of these atrocius checkmarks. I already tried, with very little success this far.

They already know and don’t care. I don’t even know what the point of that ‘chat’ is.
