Watchlist update and Credits

@vvhemelr a fix is in the pipeline for all clients to address your issue. I can’t provide an exact ETA for each client but it should be in the very near future (one or two releases out :crossed_fingers:).

@Timmehtimtims I’m hoping this will cover your case as well.

Great news. Thanks for the heads up

Thanks @Atomatth. I just tested to observe again the issue but surprisingly, at the moment, I cannot … Weird …

EDIT: nop the issue is always there …

No changes yet my end. Still not working.
However, I have access to another server through my main account. I can access the actor profiles and it loads the " Movies & Shows in Media Libraries" section to show what is available on their libraries on all of my clients. However, it still does not show what is in my library. And, if I use any of my home accounts which don’t have access to that other server, then it doesn’t load at all.
Which, to me points to this being a server issue rather than a client issue.

@vvhemelr @Timmehtimtims Looks like most, if not all, clients now have the fix I was referring to. Can you please confirm that your issues are resolved or still being observed?

Web release 4.102.1:

  • Discover Credits: Fixed an issue that could cause unexpected server activity when browsing Discover Credits pages.

Apple release 8.16:

  • Opening a person details screen would sometimes cause a media server to start a scan for new items.

Android release 9.17.0:

  • Fix issue where opening a person page could cause a PMS local media scan.

Roku release 7.0.28:

  • Fix an issue where opening a person page could cause a PMS local media scan.

I actually been forced (due to db corruption) to rebuild my library from scratch and the new library doesn’t have the same issue.
Although, I ought to say, when I use this feature on app.plex.tv/desktop it works fine, but on android it just lists the films with no profile/bio.

Can you provide some more details on your Android device? What is its? What Plex app version are you observing this behavior on?

Hi @Atomatth For the moment I do not observe the issue anymore … Probably solved. Thx

Hello everyone,
The problem was resolved in March for me but is recently back …

I have sent logs and a video to @Atomatth
Does anyone has also the problem back ? @shawngrahamWatchlist update and Credits - #146 by shawngraham exactly the same as you back then.
Thanks,
Vince

As an FYI… this has never been resolved for me. I have multiple folders in my libraries, each of which are mounted to various NAS points. If any drives are idle when I select a cast member what you show in your video happens.

As a workaround, if I then immediately back out and select another cast member then it loads immediately and I can back out again and select the cast I initially wanted.

I suspect the timeout is too short and it fails back to known for rather than listing the libraries.

@dokuro the server and files are also on a NAS (synology) but none of my drives are in “idle/sleep mode” when I experience this problem …

I don’t want to claim that you are wrong, but this happens for me also and I think it’s related to slowdown reading my database. My disks are not idling and there is definitely problems with this lately, and there are a few threads on it.

Is it possible you could have mistaken your disks idling with this problem? The effect is similar: it will load fine on a second attempt, but this is because the database request are cached now.

That’s just my experience, of course you can have a different issue.

Frankly, Plex devs seem to ignore the DB slowdowns and they are becoming a huge issue with various features (this included) so I just want to make sure we’re all speaking the same language, so to speak.

Right. I don’t think its directly related with disks idling, sorry I should have been more specific in my comment. I believe the issue happens due to any delay on the loading of this “Movies & Shows in Media Libraries” within the cast profile. The delay could be slow performance. db, network or the example I used when my disks wake up on my NAS. It really feels like the timeout / fail back on this section of the page is too aggressive. Anyhow, that is pure speculation on my side but its how it feels when I experience it.

Thanks for all the additional details on this issue. It’s been difficult to reliably reproduce. I think I’ve seen it once before but haven’t been able to reproduce since. This issue or similarly reported behavior has been reported in other threads as well. We’ve collected all what’s been reported and have a couple approaches to resolve these issues. Some client and some server tweaks. I’ll try to keep this thread updated with any progress I see. Thanks for your patience and reporting!!

@vvhemelr Looks like the weird Activity indictor lighting up is back… :man_facepalming:

Yes it is exactly as last time I described the problem I had in March, it is like all the movies in which the actor is playing need to be updated or refreshed before being displayed. The more the movies number, the more it will take “clicks” on the actor pic until all movies will be updated/refreshed/I do not what exactly … and then displayed.

I’m using SSD storage. as far as I’m aware, they don’t “idle”. It’s RAM.
