I am seeing it across all client platforms, including plex’s app.plex.desktop which I have just tested it and include in the logs. The film I’ve tested on is Die Hard 2 (2nd best Christmas film) and I’ve included the xml of that film.
The way I tested was to click on Bruce Willis, then when it failed I refreshed the film’s metadata and then clicked on Bruce Willis again. Hopefully all that will be visible in the logs.
I’ve also atttached a screenshot confirming my library settings, just in case.
Is your media on a NAS and do your disks sleep when idle ?
Reason I ask is that I CAN reproduce this issue at will from any device I use (shield, mobile, web, htpc and roku) and its far easier when local disks are waking up on my NAS. I suspect plex has some timeout when disks are waking which is impacting this functionality.
Just stumbled on this feature and love it as I’ve hated that clicking on an actor would never search outside of the folder you were in. Question: Is there intent to extend the functionality to clicking on Director and Writers too (without having to do manual search?)
@Atomatth FYI… at least for me the loading problem for the Movies & Shows in Media Libraries list has been resolved. I guess the recent client updates has fixed it.
I can now no longer reliably reproduce the partial loading on any of my clients (android tv & mobile, Web and Linux Desktop).
This is intentional. Selecting the title routes to the Universal details page. Selecting the On Plex text launches a prompt asking if you’d like to enable Plex’s Movies & TV. This is unique to Web since Web is the only client where you can Enable/Disable Online Media Sources. All other clients will display the On Plex availability but will only route to the Universal detail page.

I have the same problem with plex player on windows and I do not why plex does that… → When I click on the actor, plex automatically updates the metadata of the films in which the actor plays. If you have only a small number of film associated no problem but otherwise plex does not display them. So for exemple in the video (https://photos.app.goo.gl/fCjeEbKRZmMK1wqq9 ), I had to click two times on the Jim Carrey actor in order to update all the movies I have associated with this actor and then plex showed them.
I do not have the problem for several hours after I updated all the meta data of my library but after some time it goes like that …
Yes, exactly. Thanks for adding that. I usually automatically associate the two together.
@vvhemelr when you observe this issue, can you please grab your PMS logs and share here or DM them to me, please. Also mention the title from where you selected the cast member from.
Yes but this there is a limited set of clients that support this. Web/Desktop currently support selecting these roles and routing to their Discover Credit pages.
I assume you’re still seeing the same issue? There has been some client and server updates between the last time you shared your logs, would you mind reproducing the issue and capturing your logs again?
@vvhemelr I’m wondering if you’re still seeing this issue. If so, could you please share some logs? The more information we can share with the dev team the better. I have not been able to reproduce these issue expect here but it is since been resolved while using that PMS/Account.
@Atomatth
I updated my desktop plex app to 1.61.1.3432-3929cb60 and updated my server to 1.30.1.6562 and for the moment I could not reproduce the problem so probably resolved… But I also unchecked in the library option → Use original titles and updated all the metadata. Do not know if it can change something regarding the issue …
