Weird issue with uploading and renaming episodes. Help!

Unraid server version 6.11.5
Plex Docker version 1.32.4.7195
Everythings up to date.

I have an issue with episode uploading and renaming. Im trying to get all the seasons of Pokemon to my plex. In my media files I have season 12 that the episode numbering was wrong. All 52 episodes were there, however the numbering skipped 16. So episode 16 got numbered as 17 and every episode after that was numbered as one episode ahead of what it actually is making the last episode 53 instead of 52. (I didnt catch this originally)

Now on Plex side. Plex picked up all the episodes and numbered them correctly 1-52. But now the naming is off. Episode 52 is named what episode 51 should be named, and that pattern continues all the way back to episode 16 where episode 17 is named what 16 should be and episode 16 just got this random made up name that doesnt exist, and also i guess it didnt know what video file to use for episode 16 so it just used episode 17s video file for both. I dont understand why.

So what I’ve done so far is taken the original season 12 files outside of my plex media folder and renumbered them 1-52 the way they should be. I’ve deleted season 12 from my plex media foulder, restarted the plex server, and then uploaded the correctly numbered season episodes.

Cool that got me the correct episode 16 video file on plex, however all the names stayed the same as before where episode 16 has this made up episode name and episode 17 is named what 16 should be and so on for the rest of the season.

So, idk if plex somehow links an episode or file “ID” to a title it gives it originally but no matter how I rename things or upload things episode 16 always gets a made up name and every episode after is wrong and I really dont want to sit there and manually rename every single episode from 16-52 for every season this happens to. (I already manually renamed season 10 that was like this)

After renaming, you may need to Plex Dance the file. This clears out any matching info in the Plex Database.

Regarding episodes and ordering, Plex uses episode ordering from TMDB (aired) and TVDB (aired/dvd/absolute).

Check the ordering for Pokemon at those sites and see which one aligns with how your files are structured.

TMDB & TVDB frequently differ. For example, TMDB has 53 episodes for Pokemon Season 12, while TVDB lists just 52.

You can tell Plex which ordering to use:

Edit the show and select the appropriate ordering.

  1. At the show level (not season or episode) select the pencil icon.
  2. Advanced
  3. Episode Ordering (select desired ordering).
  4. Refresh metadata if Plex does not do so automatically.

Note: You can also change default ordering at the library level. Edit the Library → Advanced → Episode Ordering

This! This was exactly what I needed. Thank you! Fixed the issue immediately.
