I'm using it on a mac mini and there is no option to split the merged episodes. The 'help' file is useless for this.

You cannot split TV show files at this time, only movies that were merged together.

Stick to the naming scheme and folder structure for tv shows, and the split option won't be needed.
Just to be clear you can split TV shows that may have gotten combined like if Dr Who (1969) and Dr Who (2005) got merged. You cannot for episodes. To fix those you need to name them according to the guide
I had this exact same problem flipsht. I was using just Apple Media Server sharing so I had a complex path structure for my TV shows. Plex did not like that at all.
I changed to a simple path structure of
..\TV\Show Name\Season\episode name as the file name
Example:
..\Plex\TV\Black Butler\Season 3\16 Ciel in Wonderland, Pt. 2.mp4
Once I made it simple then Plex linked all the shows correctly.
BUT .. I vote to add unlinking to TV shows like in the movies. Sometimes automation hick-ups and does weird things.

This is not a good example, because it is not according to the naming guide for tv shows.
While it might have worked for you, it is eventually destined to cause problems for someone else.
File splitting only works ( movie or TV shows) if they are in separate root folders. If you have episodes stacking like that it is a naming issue.

Ok just had to download from old version just after update lost spilt and now have 2900 episodes of ted.tv which was my hole library but like 20 clickable episodes wthub. Put split back thing just became useless old version auto updates. It’s was good for a few years what happened???
