Regardless of what is informed at https://support.plex.tv/articles/201018248-merge-or-split-items/ I can not find the option to split apart some episodes that were incorrectly merged by Plex.
I’ve seen this option once, but I can not find it any more.
You cannot split episodes.
Only movies or complete tv shows are splittable.
If you get merged episoes, it is caused either by incorrect file and folder names or embedded metadata.
You need to get that straightened out first.
preparation:
Go to Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB
In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
+
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
+
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase
main course:
- Look up your show on TheTVDB
- Take the title as it is used on TheTVDB. If there is something in parentheses, take that too. If the title contains invalid characters (depends on your file system), like
§ : % *
, simply leave them out. - Check the naming and the folder structure of your show. Name the top folder of the show exactly after the title on TheTVDB. No abbreviations. No additional subfolders. No aliases.
- Name the episode files according to the above linked naming guide. Use the same title as for the top folder.
Show's Title - s01e01 - additional info.ext
(’- additional info’ can be left out) - After you corrected the naming and folder structure, perform the Plex Dance with all files for this show.
I didn’t tell me where is the split apart option…

You need to be looking at the top level of the tv show where it lists the seasons. Click the ellipses (…) and if there is something that has been merged together, you will have the option to split them apart just as what is shown in the movie screen shot in the linked article.
As @OttoKerner said above however, they were probably merged due to incorrect naming. For you sake if you ever need to rebuild your library I would say fix the naming so you don’t have merging issues now just in case. I had to rebuild my server without a backup last year, it was so nice that everything was named correctly, found the correct metadata, and all I had to do was fix posters and such.
There is no “split apart” at the show level because the show is fine and not combined with anything and there is no split apart option at a lower level by design.
As others have said it is your naming that is probably wrong and if you fix it and perform the Plex dance then everything will probably be fine.

Note: The year after the show name is only normally needed or desired if there is more that one show with exactly the same name. Check http://thetvdb.com/ if you are not sure and match exactly the name used there. There are some exceptions to this where the year is needed even if there is no other show of that name or if the show does not have the year in TheTVDB.
There are naming methods other than the above that work but this does work 99.9% of the time.
If you are going to use Plex it is best to use the proper naming conventions so Plex makes the best match possible. Trying to force Plex to use other naming methods is just asking for frustration.

Most of the episodes have a name in Brazilian Portuguese. Rarely is there a match with thetvdb.
I have no interest in keeping changing the names of each episode one by one to solve this problem.
I think this Merge option completely unnecessary and annoying.
In any case, since there is no better solution, I will rename all the episodes.
But this could be much better for the user, being able to disable the merge option …

So, where is the split apart option???
go for Elijah’s guidance.
you don’t get the option to split the show because you only have 1 episode which has multiple versions.
instead of searching how to split it, find the 2 files linked to Season 1 / Episode 1
and fix the name of the one that doesn’t belong there.
Here is the directory structure I created.
They are in a main folder, divided into two folders with different names, with episodes of different names.
—Ze Colmeia
±–Ze Colmeia e Catatau
| Ze Colmeia e Catatau Episodio 01.avi
| Ze Colmeia e Catatau Episodio 02.avi
| Ze Colmeia e Catatau Episodio 03.avi
| Ze Colmeia e Catatau Trailer.avi
|
—Ze Colmeia e os Cacadores de Tesouros
Ze Colmeia e os Cacadores de Tesouros Epi 01.avi
Ze Colmeia e os Cacadores de Tesouros Epi 02.avi
Ze Colmeia e os Cacadores de Tesouros Trailer.mp4
Even so, Plex is merging improperly.
Why?
That naming and structure is completely wrong! See my earlier post. Language matters very little BUT naming and structure matters a LOT!
because this structure is incorrect and will definitely give Plex a bad hiccup.
I’m stealing the raw structure of how your files should be named from Elijah’s post and apply it to your situation:
TV Shows
<— The library points here
--- Ze Colmeia e Catatau (1967)
<-- this is the folder for show #1
--- --- Season 01

Plex does not support mixed-up folders. You need to treat those 2 individual shows as individual shows.
However… inside Plex you can assign both shows to the same collection and show them as 1 main entry in your library (see https://support.plex.tv/articles/201273953-collections/).
Now… I have to admit that your particular show is tricky. Not so much because of the folder structure, but because there’s no exact match in TheTVDB or The Movie Database (The Movie Database e.g. knows the 1st show but has no data for it – https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/19580).
I couldn’t even find the 2nd show.
I can find Yogi Bear and Yogi’s Treasure Hunt in English at TVDB:
https://www.thetvdb.com/
However… if those shows exist in the required native language is a question I can’t answer. One thing is certain… if the instructions for TV Show file naming and folder structuring are not followed to the letter - in any language - this is going nowhere at Warp 9.9
https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/media-preparation/
https://support.plex.tv/articles/200220687-naming-series-season-based-tv-shows/ <— Follow the instructions
@tom80H 's naming and structuring will work fine, but it would behoove Rogerio Dec to travel to TVDB and try to find the Portuguese Version, name it appropriately and structure it accordingly.
Thank you. I know we have to adapt to the rules of each tool.
However I think that this concept of merge is useless and only disturbs.
Even so, I thank you all for your kindness and for the answers.
Merge is important - when you want to Merge one or more items under one poster. Split Apart is important when similarly named items are Merged, but you’d rather have them separate.
Bogus Merging - due to Bogus Naming and Structuring is a user issue, brought on by the user and repaired by the user… by following the instructions for file naming and structuring.
