This is just awful. I can not imagine what motivated someone to push this on an unsuspecting public. I’m not even going to get into the bugs, because honestly… why? Why bother talking about the problems when the entire concept is such a failure? My 4 year old is crying because she can’t find her shows. My 6 year old rage quit your crap. I’m screaming because I can’t even find the cursor. No, really. The cursor keeps vanishing. This isn’t a free service. We pay for this. Don’t test your interns ideas in production.
My 5 year old is the same. She freaked out cos it went to the last selected library which was all adult shows and smashed up the American horror story picture. At least with the old one I could manage to keep it away and space it… Not to mention the navigation is too hard for her and she can’t figure it out.
Thats why I activated Plex Home, when they start plex they click their icon and only see the libraries I want them to see.
But beside that, their are some bugs that need to be fixed and some functionalities brought to the home screen.
The extra information shown in the preplay screen is a big plus though

That’s a big fail from your side. You have Plex Pass, your kids should have separated accounts limited to sweet/candy stuff only.
Sign ins and multi accounts aren’t something I’ve investigated tbh didn’t even know it existed. I’ve not been an active user on the boards as previously it just worked exactly how I needed it to. I had multiple libraries separating kids and adults and was working a charm. Might have to investigate the multi account stuff and see. Cheers. (either way navigation is still ■■■■ on the new app )
https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/users
Just create users for your little ones. Put a PIN on all adults account, leave the kids without one, so it’s easy for them to swap.
I agree navigation is horrible, the whole application is just over complicated. That’s why OpenPHT still remains main app for me.
While there are many complaints about the new app, one of the big benefits is the ability to switch users. So, in addition to what @“Bartlomiej Baraniec” already stated, you can create Xbox accounts for your kids and when they want to watch something just have them switch to their Xbox account and open Plex. That way they won’t open Plex and see all your shows before switching to their Plex managed user account. Plus, you won’t have to enter your PIN every time you want to watch a show in Plex.
@mbarylski The user switching feature has been part of Plex long before the current horrendous app; so, let’s not use that feature to give the new app credit.

You couldn’t use multiple xbox accounts and managed users with the old app. There was a workaround, but you still couldn’t use managed users. So, yes, the new app, and really the Xbox fall update does get credit for making it easier to switch between Plex users.
@mbarylski That’s odd that you say that; because, I know that when logged in to my own Xbox account, I was always given the choice within Plex to choose which Plex account to login to (and to change that account mid-session without changing Xbox accounts). I also know, for sure, that when the Xbox account logged in was changed, the Plex would logout and require re-authentication or linking to another account. Maybe I’m missing something here; but, I digress.

Nope, you’re not missing anything. It’s just a distinction of additional flexibility now. What you described is exactly how it worked for me too. The change is that I can login to xbox and my wife or kids can login to xbox with their own account, and each xbox account can automatically login to their own Plex managed user account. It’s a small improvement for some, but big for me, because now 2 xbox’s can be in use at the same time. So if I ever get a 2nd xbox (hopefully the Xbox One X) I can use the Xbox One X at the same time my wife uses the other Xbox One to watch Plex. Before, it would be a constant re-linking process to use 2 separate xbox accounts, on 2 different Xbox One’s at the same time.

Not to beat a dead horse, but previously if you created a second free plex account added it to your plex home and then linked that second account to the second xbox live account you didn’t have to worry about constantly re-linking the app. Additionally, if this is a kids account they can log into other plex devices (such as a phone, tablet, or plex web) with the second account without you needing to give them/sign in on the admin account.

Yep, that worked, but wasn’t as elegant as using managed users. Much better implementation now.

Put it back.
yeah I just now got (rather was forced to take) the new update, and it’s just awful. but don’t worry, us amazon FireTV users have been in the same boat for about at least a month or two now, with little to no response from plex - their new design philosophy seems to be, “hay guiyz? we fired all our veteran good devs so we could hire graphic design students for 1/4 the cost! check out this shiny new app we’re forcing on you! enjoy!!!” - and then they immediately disappear for several months with no reply even though the forums are boiling over with so many hurt/sad/mad people.
