What Does Plex Mix Use for Mixes?

I’m wondering what “Plex Mix” uses to develop its mixes? There are times when I start a Plex Mix and the mix of music has nothing to do with the original track I selected. For instance, if I do a Plex Mix on “Burn One Down” by Ben Harper, the next song is “Happy” from Mudvayne, followed by 25 other death metal songs. Then, if I do a Plex Mix on “Happy Song” from Bring Me the Horizon, all the rest of the mix is Country songs.

A long time ago, I got a little retentive and modified the Genre in all my music (prior to being loaded to Plex). I’m wondering if the modified Genre information is somehow messing with Plex Mix? Does this sound feasible? If so, I have an easy(ish) solution to essentially wipe out the modified genre information so Plex can overwrite it, but wanted to see if it would be worth the effort.

If Plex Mix doesn’t use genre information for making a Mix, what does it use and is there any way I can convince it not to mix easy going country with death metal and vice versa?

Thanks for any help you might be able to provide.

Yeah, I asked the same question some time back. Plex Mix is based on proprietary info from Gracenote. I don’t think Plex has any say over it.

@beckfield
Thanks, thats what I thought I remembered reading a while back, but couldn’t find the post again. Unfortunate, as it seems to be WAY off, at least for me. Oh well, Plex is still a fantastic program, even with some of the small issues.
Thanks again.
