In every comment where it is asked, blog mods avoid answering the subject question and refer specific issues here.
I think it is perfectly fair to ask for a list of related software and versions where the new unified LiveTV “aspect” of Plex works, and then we can assume that under all other versions it probably doesn’t.
I ask because:
- Roku completed surprised me by suddenly acting differently
- my family-oriented kid account, which most of us watch through on this Roku, simply lost “What’s On” under LiveTV & DVR and didn’t gain LiveTV, making it harder to get to regularly-watched higher numbered channels (NOTE: I found “Favorites” there, but there was no way to make any channel a Fave under the kid account, which was immensely frustrating)
- UNTIL I finally logged in as me (admin) and my view was very different than the kid account (i.e., had unified LiveTV)
- NOTE1: I don’t often login to the TV under myself b/c the app offers no way to enter the PIN without the kids seeing my button presses on the TV
- NOTE2: I run my CableCard tuner through 2 Plex Servers: a FreeBSD server (the workhorse) and an HTPC under Windows (the backup)
- under my own account, under LiveTV > Guide > HTPC … I see channels
- under my own account, under LiveTV > Guide > FreeBSD … I see no channels (“Your guide is empty”)
- I keep my HTPC/Windows server more up-to-date because the process is easier and that server is less used
- that tells me the server version is probably my issue (I hope)
So now the Roku is apparently showing 100% of LiveTV through the backup server.
THUS, the core question: Which Plex Server versions support this? Obviously, my current FreeBSD version does not.
And while you’re at it, which Plex apps and client versions support this important new feature? Fair question.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The FreeBSD “pkg” service never, ever offers THE MOST UP-TO-DATE server version – and if I want the latest downloadable from Plex, I have to perform the server upgrade very manually – so it matters to me to know which server version supports this. That way I know if I can just automatically “pkg” this upgrade to that version, or if I have to download and do it manually, or wait until pkg catches up to the FreeBSD version you report now as “current.”
