I seem to have lost the ability to manually add/remove hubs on my Home screen. It’s mostly showing a load of stuff now that I don’t want there, and there’s no option on the * menu to remove a hub, or in the separate library pages to add a hub to the Home screen. How can I get back this functionality? Without it, the Home screen is mostly useless to me.
Plex fixed something that wasn’t broken and called it a new feature… Here is roughly 1000 frustrated posts about that: On Deck, Continue Watching & Recently Added
I knew that change to On Deck was coming but assumed that the manual customisation of the rest of the Home screen would still be an option. There’s still the option in the settings to reset the customisation, even though that customisation has just been unceremoniously wiped and snatched away.
You still have a fair bit of input regarding what appears and doesn’t appear on your home screen; however, the settings have been moved server-side. Here’s the relevant support article:
Yes, no way to have content from a particular library appear on the home screen but not in the Continue Watching row, though.
You can, by setting the advanced library option “Visibility” to “Exclude from home screen.” This will prevent a pinned library from contributing content to Continue Watching; however, it will also prevent any of its content from appearing on the home screen. This would be useful if you wanted quick access to a library by having it pinned, and wanted to be able to search it, but did not want its content anywhere on your home screen.
By the way, I’m not trying to convince you that the new management tools are better (or even as good as) the old ones. But there are, at least, new tools.
So as I said, no way to have content from a particular library appear on the home screen but not in the Continue Watching row.
I also seem to be limited to having the rows in the Home Screen in the same order as the libraries in the sidebar. It used to be possible to move them around and have them in any order I liked.
In the Customization panel, grab the hamburger menu with Cursor and change ranking of a category. Obvious this will not alter correlation of order between left menu and Home screen.
Mea culpa; I did somehow miss that in your post. Which is embarrassing since it was only a single sentence .
Whatever Plex did in the most recent update simply broke my home screen - it’s blank where I had previously displayed recently added movies and continue watching sections. There is no link on the left side of the home tab (guess that’s where the customization options used to be), just a solid gold tab - whereas my other displayed home screen tabs still have the link showing on their left edge to unpin that tab from the home screen. When I select “more” and land on my “server” tab (with my unpinned home screen sections accordion-ed shut beneath it, it’s displaying what used to appear on my home screen - (recently added and continue watching movies) but it’s added recent playlists. Obviously there’s no way to customize this “server” screen…and anyways, it’s dysfunctional not having a home screen display any content. Also, when I unpin the add a Plex pass tab this time (that Plex adds into each update), it crashes the channel/app. Plex had always fixed those types of glitches, so I’m counting on that.
My wish would be that they get to a point where I don’t need to re-set my customization each time they do an update, which is pretty frequently - that’s a bit annoying. GREAT app though…
Thanks so much for this link - I was able to customize my home screen that way I like it - continue watching and recently added movies - the only difference is that I now have to pin my movies library to the home page sidebar in or order for this to occur…previously was able to hide the movies section (better for navigation and organization as I generally don’t visit my movies section on a regular basis). ;o
No problem, glad it helped.
Why did this have to happen?
I do not often visit Plex forums, but whenever I do, all I see is people complaining about a feature changing into a something that can only be called a bug.
Thanks for the info how to remove the other “Recently added” entries on the home screen.
