I haven’t been able to find an explanation anywhere…
It’s basically an updated and supported version of Plex Home Theater that many people feel is objectively superior to the official Plex Media Player.

It is a Client app for the Plex Server

Since I don’t really either know anything about OpenPHT, I hope it’s ok to use this thread and ask a question…
I’m currently using the old PHT.
My htpc:s are all running W10 32-bit.
Any recommendations on either update computers to 64-bit and go for PMP, wait for the release of 32-bit version of PMP or give OpenPHT a chance?
Why not trying it yourself?
Switching OS is much more work than installing one program.
And that 32bit version of PMP is not in sight.

you wont find many people here saying choose PMP over OpenPHT
not sure why you wouldnt want to give OpenPHT a chance, since you are using PHT already.
OpenPHT = what you are using now + tons of fixes / back end upgrades / new features.
i suggest installing the Aeon Nox skin for OpenPHT as well
Thank you all for your replys, really appreciate it

I am sure going to give at a go, but the essence of my question was, like the thread states, that I was hoping to get more info of the difference between the alternatives.
The old PHT that I am using isnt great. Audio out of sync, subs out of sync. Every now and then a movie restarts if i change the sub during playback etc.
Forgot to ask: does OpenPHT work towards the server straight away?
Ignore my last post.
I installed it on one htpc and works just fine straight away.
But I can barely see any difference between OpenPHT and PHT…?
That is the point.
The new Plex Media Player (PMP) is such a departure with regards to the interface and display of the library that many prefer OpenPHT. It is supposed to look like regular PHT but with continued development.
That’s perfect!
Just was I was looking for then.
Lucky me to stumble upon this part of the forum
I gotta say, how impressed I am over how easy the installation was, especially since it isn’t an official realase.
Is it somehow endorsed by Plex?
Since the code registration was via the website…
OpenPHT is plain old PHT but with a lot of fixes and features added, see https://github.com/RasPlex/OpenPHT/releases starting from 1.5.0 at the bottom to get a more detailed list of how OpenPHT differs from PHT.
Highlights of changes:
- 1.5: First release with lots of fixes we already had implemented in RasPlex, was considered to be released as PHT 1.4.2 before we decided to fork and release as OpenPHT 1.5.0.
- 1.6: Playback and audio engine and lots of other parts where upgraded to Kodi Jarvis counterparts. Improved playback and audio issues a lot.
- 1.7: Mouse support, skinning engine and lots of other improvements.
Thank you very much for info.
Tried to watch a TV-show tonight, but this happened every ten minutes. Anybody got a clue what could be wrong?
video drivers using the latest versions?
Sadly, yes.
I’ve got an Gigabyte Brix with buit in Intel HD Graphics (4400). Drivers are from 2015 and stupid, stupid me are running W10 32-bit. Seems like there aren’t any newer than what iv’e got…
But I have never had this problem before. Neither with PHT or previous MCE
its dated 13 May 2016?
Thank you very much for taking the time to look that up.
But I already found it and tried to install. Strangely enough it says that my computer doesn’t meet the minimum requirements when I’m trying to install, even though it is specified for that specific graphic card…
I tried Intels automatic update tool as well, where it scans the computer. But according to it the computer is up to date and at Gigabyte there aren’t any newer drivers…
what requirement does it fail on? are you sure you tried to install the 32bit?
is the machine fully updated with windows updates?
Hmmm, there is obviously something wrong here. I’m guessing your right with why the picture goes green or striped, and also not always is in sync with the sound.
I just installed OpenPHT on another older Gigabyte Brix in another room. Drives for the graphics card was from 2016 (without me doing anything), and both picture and audio was perfect.
The annoying thing is that the one I’m having problem with is my main rig. I’m sure it is the 32-bit that I’m trying to install. I’ve tried every single on that Intel has on their site. Tried both to download the zip and manually installand as well as the exe. Tried Windows update. But it’s not working.
It just says either that it’s up to date or that the computer doesn’t meet minimum requirements for the installation…
