Where is Settings > Server > Remote Access?

Hello,

I am frequently getting the “No content items available” error in Sonos. An AI help agent told me to go to Settings > Server > Remote Access in the Plex Web App and check the Enable Remote Access button is selected. But I can’t find this setting anywhere in the Plex web app.

I would be very grateful for anyone’s help.

Go to app, plex.tv and make sure you’re signed in etc

Click on the spanner icon in the top right

Scroll down the left side and you should see remote access in the list

Thank you, I must have missed it before. In that section, it says NAS>Remote Access>Not available outside your network, and I have the option of being able to Disable Remote Access and specify Public and Private IP’s a subject which is beyond me, and Internet upload speed. I don’t think that public and private issues concern me, as all I do is play my movies/TV and music from my NAS round the house.

Many thanks..

That looks like remote access is enabled in Plex. Have you forwarded the port in your router?

Um, I have no idea! Should I be? How do you do it?

Thanks.

The troubleshooting tips contain a link to a website describing how to establish port forward on different router brands/models.

You need to otherwise your router will block the incoming traffic.

It will depend on your router how you do this

I will ask my ISP. Thank you.

Thank you, Tom80H.

Hello, I had a new ISP contract start yesterday, and whereas the internet service is fine, the NAS is completely unresponsive, either on the desktop or via its web URL. Obviously, Plex isn’t contactable; does this relate to my previous issues (above) regarding the need to forward a port?

I still haven’t figured out port forwarding, maybe it’s a good time for me to do so…

No. That sounds more like a local routing problem.
Did you by chance assign a local IP to the NAS itself (not via the router configuration? That could explain why other devices no longer see it as a local device if the new ISP’s router is creating a different subnet for your home network (e.g. first three segments of the local IP no longer match).

Could also be some manual config on the NAS, like firewall rules blocking traffic from such a different IP bsnd.

I’ve not changed a thing from my previous ISP, where at least the NAS/Plex was visible (though a poor connection). Aside from your excellent help, on here, I am not sure if I need to contact my ISP (Plusnet) or the NAS maker (Synology.) to reconnect.

Actually, I have changed one thing; with my previous ISP, I had a physical ethernet connection to the NAS, although that wouldn’t account for the lack of NAS/Plex to my TV or laptop/phones.

It’s not necessarily about a change made by your ISP.
I assume the new ISP gave you a new router? The router configuration might just be different (just by how you’ve been setting it up, not by the ISP’s design) — hence the reference to the IP band used for your local home network.

Not knowing your setup and configuration details, we’ll only be guessing.

Yes, I received a new router, a Plusnet Hub 2.

I’m not familiar with that model.
I suggest you take a look at the router config to see if there’s a list of connected devices and their local IP addresses.

New routers will setup their own network.
Maybe the NAS is still there but just no longer using the old local IP address.

Thanks, I’ll look into it. I understand that the Plusnet Hub 2 has a rebranded BT Smart Hub 2.

I have found my list of devices, and the NAS doesn’t appear to be one of them, although several of them either have undecipherable or ‘unknown_xxxx’ names - every other device however is listed.

Synology Assistant (unsurprisingly) can’t find it.
