Which one to use?

I’ve noticed while the app simply called ‘Plex’ has been released, ‘Plex Media Player’ is still being developed?
I’ve also noticed some behaviors such as scrolling being smoother on PMP and while choppier to scroll, an issue with involuntary horizontal scrolling has been fixed on ‘Plex’.
Both have their issues.
Which one should we use?
Is one being replaced by the other?

The app known as “Plex” is the latest and greatest.

The player you end up using depends on your needs for control over playback.

I’m happy the company is starting from the ground up coding the new Plex player to the best example of unified code, well made using everything they learned so far.

However, at the time of this post, Plex for Mac is immature, because it has numerous missing features we’ve come to expect in software players, features that are still being rolled out.

Plex for Mac doesn’t support adjusting audio delay, sub delay, sub color, sub position, sub size, customized key binds, adding filters into the playback chain like DRC, SPDIF passthrough, or TV Mode. I’m forgetting other limitations I don’t use, probably.

However, Plex for Mac is part of the broad core that is the basis for the future of Plex. Plex for Mac can show you the Console, a live view into your logs. With all the missing features, though, Plex for Mac is something I use only for testing.

Plex Media Player is being retired early in 2020, from what I heard.
Try them both out, and let us know how it goes. :slightly_smiling_face:
