I am getting ready to move from DSM 6 to DSM 7 on my Synology 218+. I know I need to download the package from the Plex downloads page. But when I go there, I see several options. Do I download the Intel 64 version, or the AMB (?) version? I looked at the Synology site, and all it says is dual-core processor.
That is 64 bit intel according to the list https://support.plex.tv/articles/201373803-nas-compatibility-list/
-
You can use the version in Synology Package Center, 1.29.2.6364.
-
If you download from plex.tv, you want the Intel 64-bit version.
Thank you.
FordGuy 61, up until now I have always seen to not use the DSM 7 package center to download PMS. You are saying that is safe and approved now…
And BTW, thanks for the FAQ 27 link. This is somewhat more clear than some of the material I have previously read.
yes you can use the package center version. it will always be out of date as synology won’t publish as fast as plex does (which is why you have seen everywhere not to use the package center version, they still had a version that was used for testing when dsm 7 was first coming out). the current version from package center is stable though.
Thank you. So even though it is safe, it is probably still smart to use the Plex Downloads Center version for my installation tomorrow). Thanks to all of you for the help.
well you can start with that during the migration and then when finished go update to the latest. but yes. eventually youll want to go to downloads center as im sure that package center version won’t get update for another year. its already a couple months behind.
Please ping me if needed.
I don’t know how to ping you. I have followed all the instructions in FAQ 27.I can get Plex to open, but when it tries to load, it says I don’t have authorization to access. Have given the Plex share folder full control. I have also give the PlexMediaServer full control. Where do I go now?
like this @ChuckPa or with a direct message. make sure you are trying to access plex with the direct IP address on your local network.
I hate to be dense, but I tried the @ChurkPa and all that did was open his credentials. I tried to send him a SMS at that address, but it didn’t work. I don’t see any way to send a direct message in this forum. So how do I ping someone, or how do I send a direct message? I’m in over my head here.
i already pinged him for you. when you type @ and then usernames you select his and it lets him know he has been mentioned. he apparently has his direct messages turned off so you can’t dm him. anyway, hell be back. just probably busy. so you can’t access plex from your internalip:32400?
How may I be of help?
To "ping me’ in the forum is as simple as calling out @chuckpa ![]()
-
Uninstall the DSM 7 app with KEEP option (first radio button)
-
Reinstall again – EXCEPT —
-
New or Lost servers (Plex Claim Token method)
-
Click the Blue hyperlink
– New browser tab open which presents a ‘claim-xxxxxx’ token
– COPY that token -
Return to Installation tab
-
PASTE the ‘claim-xxxxx’ token into the box on the form
-
Click NEXT, NEXT, DONE
-
Wait for the installer and PMS to establish new credentials (about 15 seconds longer than normal)
-
When complete, The popup window will show your Plex Username and Email address if successful.
– If blank, there is a network problem (DNS or connectivity)
When installing Plex, I did not see the warning you said I would. I uninstalled Plex for DSM 6, then I installed DSM 7, then I installed Plex for DSM 7. It said it was installed (took only a few minutes) but to check permissions. So I did all you suggested, uninstalled Plex, and then reinstalled it. I can get as far as the Plex sign in screen, it starts to load, and then says I don’t have permission. So what do I do now?
Thanks.
When you look in the old “Plex” shared folder, do you still see "Library/Application Support / Plex Media Server?
If you do, this is your DSM 6-based installation. What didn’t happen for you (missed a step somewhere - but not a big deal) is the permissions on the Plex shared folder prevented the installer from detecting the DSM 6 data and then moving it to DSM 7
Please let me know what you find. I’ll give you instructions based on that.
Yes, in the Old Plex I see the Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server. So, as you said, I must have missed a step. Where do I go now?
OK.. so your DSM 6 plex is there.
Everything in the DSM 7 area can be discarded.
-
Uninstall the DSM 7 Plex app with ERASE (in red)
– We’re going to get rid of it and then get your DSM 6 Plex upgraded
-
Using this FAQ (27) – Step: Scenario 2
– Use it as the guide to give SYSTEM INTERNAL USER PlexMediaServer “Full Control” (Admin,Read,Write permission) of files and folders of the “Plex” shared folder.
Give a glance.. I’m right here
