I have a library with adult content and, for some reason, the Plex agent just refuses to find or match some titles that are on TMDB. I’ve tried searching directly with this syntax “tmdb-628185”, but even when I plug in known IDs, it comes back with “no matches found.” I’ve confirmed that the titles I can’t match (there are 7 or 8 across a library of 600+) are movies on the TMDB site and the library type is Movies. The library scanner is “Plex Movie” and the agent is also “Plex Movie”. I do have “use local assets” checked, but since I’ve matched well over 600 titles, I can’t imagine that this setting makes such a small handful invisible. I obviously also have the “include adult content” checkbox enabled.
I’m not sure what the forum policy is with regard to posting links to adult content so I’m only mentioning the above movie ID as an example (which is a legitimate ID from TMDB). I’ve made a few edits to some of the entries to see if a recent update would make them visible to the Plex agent, but no luck so far. One oddity I’ve noticed is that all the ones I can’t match were created some time in 2019. That’s not to say that everything adult from 2019 is unmatchable (I’ve matched many titles that other users have created from 2019). But this is just an observation I’ve made while trying to figure out what might be consistent across all the “invisible” titles.
I have the sneaking suspicion that I can get it to match if I just create a new duplicate entry, but that’s obviously against the spirit of a crowd-sourced DB like TMDB (and also likely against their terms of use). Perhaps there’s a specific attribute which needs to be in place, but all the typical stuff from the Primary Facts, Cast, Production Information, and Release Information have proper entries. There were a few titles which were originally created in French and I’ve created English translation pages (as well as filling in missing info), but that doesn’t seem to do it either.
I have a feeling this might be an unintentional bug based on us trying to remove adult content from being surfaced in the discover feature but not sure.
The only thing you should need to do is check “Include adult content” which you did. I tried and can reproduce issue so will make bug report.
Looks like what actually happened is that Movie (“tmdb-628185”,) did not have anythign in it’s Title field on TMDB till a couple days ago, only the Original Title, so we missed pulling in its metadata. It takes a couple days for us to pick up changes. Metadata team said they would add a fallback so it pulls in things with only Original Title
Okay, I see. I added a “Translated Title” a couple of days ago and it’s now matching when I check it. Looks like an easy fix from an editing perspective on TMDB.
@BigWheel Matching has improved as I was able to match some of the previous titles I had issues with before. But I don’t think this has been fixed yet (not sure if your Metadata team has rolled out their fallback method or not though). For example, if I search for tmdb-803037 I get no matches found. Even though this is a valid entry in English. The TMBD moderators have the Translated Title field locked so I can’t duplicate the title there to try an alternate matching method.
@BigWheel
There are still quite a few entries that refuse to match, even when I search by ID. I know that there are some issues with matching metadata, but what I’m confused about is why I can’t search by ID. If the ID is valid, why does it still matter what’s in the title field? As a user, when I submit an ID, I expect it to pull everything that’s in there, even if there’s a title mismatch.

I know there is a gay adult movie agent, PGMA Modernized, that works exceptionally well - I use it.
Look to see if there is a Straight movie Agent for your Library, it’s easy better than the standard Ones move agents
If not, PGMA Modernized does support movies on IAFD.
That’s a good idea. I hadn’t thought to find an adult specific agent. Only thing I’m concerned about is having to re-edit any metadata I’ve already had to fix. I’ve already put in a ton of time organizing things. Does PGMA replace Plex’s built-in agent entirely or does it complement it by finding matches that Plex can’t?
Trust me, I feel you pain.
I had a decade of material with complete metadata already input into each mp4.
I was able to to use the data I had to make an easier and fast transition to PGMA.
Combined with the default Plex metadata agent and PGMA I’m happy and didn’t lose anything, and gained a whole lot in return.
Specially, Plex’s agent will override PGMA. I did have to move drive metadata girls to unused ones - just so I wouldn’t lose it, but mostly over time I deleted much of the data.
I use a highly modified Foobar2000 to edit, name and organize my Adult collections - And let Plex handle the moves, TV and music.
