Why can't I access my movies on Plex Server? Server 2012 R2 Essentials and Plex Server V1.3.3.3148

Hi.

I installed Plex a week or so ago and everything has been working fine up until today. When I try and launch the plex player or app depending on which machine i try I get the message that login failed. After doing some research I found a forum article that said to add the ip addresses of local machines separated by a comma (DONE). Now when I start the app I can immediately see my server and select a movie, but when I try to play it I get the message “There was a problem playing this item”

What the heck is going on here? I should have access to my own movies on my local network without having to have internet access.

Can anyone from Plex explain what is going on and how to get around this issue?

I signed up for Plex Pass, not for the ability to use it remotely from my home, but for trailers etc.

How do I resolve this?

Not sure if this is connected to your issue or not, but seems that Plex is down for almost everybody right now. Has been for a few hours and still not fixed yet. Some people can access local stuff, some can’t. Nobody knows what’s going on yet. Hang in there, I guess. It’s annoying, but hopefully we’ll get an answer from a staff member soon.

Thanks for the response. I saw the message about maintenance on the Plex.TV site but even so I don’t think it should effect viewing on the local network. Not a very good setup if this is the case.

I might have to look at trying to get my Plex Pass money refunded and go with some other type of server. As I mentioned in my original question I only got Plex Pass for the Trailers and a couple of other features, but not world wide access to my server. What good is that feature when you can’t get access locally.

I’ve been using Plex for years and this has only happened two or three times. It is very frustrating, but I would consider this a rare occurrence. It’s not without it’s issues here or there, but overall I think it’s the best streaming solution. Sorry it happened so early in your experience. But hopefully this is just a temporary issue. Plex is pretty awesome most of the time.

Not being able to access local content when this happens is certainly an issue though. Can’t deny that. Hopefully this spurs some action on that front.

For what it’s worth, everything was working for me locally using Plex Home Theater and iOS (not on Roku for some reason). But nothing worked remotely. Things seem to be working for me now though. Some people still seem to be having issues. Hopefully we get an explanation soon.

edit: there’s more discussion in this thread. Things started about 8pm eastern, New Years Eve.

Just checked and now that the Plex.TV site is back up and able to be logged into my Movies are now accessable again.

There needs to be something implemented so that when the Plex.TV site is down for maintenance or whatever that we should still be able to access everything as per normal on the “Local” network.

Any comments from anyone at Plex? Is there still something else I need to configure to get this all working the way I think it should operate?

I couldn’t even watch a movie via localhost, so that’s a pretty bad dependency.

Strangely enough I could access two friends’ libraries during the downtime.
