I am using plex server 1.9.7.4460 for OSX, and when connecting remotely via the web app I cannot select anything but the lowest quality. The highest it will let me go is 328p .7 Mbps. My upload and download speeds for the server and client are sufficient, and I can stream original quality video from my android app over the same network.
Messing around with player quality settings have brought no avail. Any suggestions?
I have the same problem. I installed Plex media server v. 1.14.0.5470 installed on Ubuntu server 18.04 and mounted the Plex drive to NAS drobo using SMB. When I stream out side my network I only get up to 328p with 0.7 Mbps. While my upload bandwidth is 10 Mbps. The Ubuntu server installed on Dell i5 4th gen ans I am not using VM. I have set every thing to max and also tried 720p with 4 Mbps but I still have the same problem. Any advice to fix the problem.
Problem Solved.
After I did farther investigation to my network I found the problem. The problem in the firewall. I have Pfsense firewll. I set in my firewall Proxy server, DNSsec, Snort, VPN, and pfblocker. The pfblocker is stopped the connection for the port forward and force the Plex media server to use Relay connection. The Relay connection it has limit to 1Mbps for free user and 2Mbps for Plex Pass “https://support.plex.tv/articles/216766168-accessing-a-server-through-relay/”. The problem with pfblocker was the GeoIp setting. I have to allow some ip for Plex out side US to connect to Plex media server. This is fix the problem.
I think Plex team should mention to this problem in the remote access article for user using Advance Firewall.
