Why did Plex Forums use my email address as my username and how do I change it?

Thanks to both of you, solved. Anyway, the forum should not set the email as username by default.

If you have not already, we suggest setting your Plex username to something else rather than email which is displayed on your posts in forum. You can change the username at https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/account

There are countless email addresses displayed in the forum right now. They’re being harvested by bots for the purposes of sending out SPAM continually. They’ll appear in search indexes, etc. Anyone can be copy and paste to send an email, regardless of wheather the forum supports a direct email feature of its own.

At the very least, why not make a patch to the forum display code to not output a full email address as username? This issue has been around for over 2 years and I can’t believe people haven’t raised more hell over it. This is really inexcusable.

We’re also still waiting for the ability to have a forum nickname/display name independent of Plex user name. I’d like to use a nickname I use elsewhere here in the forum which would otherwise be irrelevant or confusing as a sign-on or user name in Plex itself (for myself, wife or kids to see).

At the moment I’ve had to inconveniently set up an extra managed user - inconvenient because that managed user isn’t the administrator and I have to keep playing account shuffle.

What if we like our Plex username, and our friends are familiar with it? Can we change our forum display name?

No, as of now there is no way to pick a different name for use in the forums. It is always linked to your Plex username.
