on every single post when logs are requested from a Plex Support person?
Why is Verbose Logging even an option in Plex if it is never wanted, when requesting logs?
It almost seems to be some sort of worthless code left in for no reason.
I’m not knocking Plex (I sure as hell couldn’t do what Plex has done) but it just seems like if it’s always a bad thing to have enabled, why you wouldn’t you just remove it?
Just a shower thought I’ve had rattling in my brain.
The amount of info in a verbose log is huge, and is only needed in cases where the issue is extremely hard to puzzle out. For most issues, it’s not needed, and it can make investigating typical issues very tedious. If the investigators can’t solve the problem with non-verbose logs, then they will ask you to turn ‘verbose’ on and send another set of logs.
You don’t tear the car apart to find the rattle before you’ve checked for rocks in the wheel well.
Ok, I can see this, I did look up what “verbose logging” was before I asked, but still have you @beckfield ever seen a request for the verbose log in the 8+ years you’ve been using Plex?
Tell that to a dealership mechanic
Yes, this is true, but you also don’t put a catalytic converter in an electric car to prove it has low/no emissions. Horrible analogy I know, but my point is, if it’s never wanted or needed why is it there? That’s like putting a garage door in the front of your house, just incase you need to bring the car into the living room.
