I have Plex set up with my syno and I have the app on my android. But I’ve also added the app to my iPad, but I get a one minute limit. The iPad is connected to the media server.
Would someone please explain?
App activation purchases are tied to your app store account not your Plex account or server. The app check the app store for that particular device to see if a purchase was made by your app store account.
The purchase from Google Play by your Google Play account cannot be transferred or shared with your Apple account. the app on iOS devices check the Apple app store for a purchase
if you have a purchase from Google play then you can use it on as many Android Devices that you have that use Google Play. If you purchase the iOS activation from Apple you can use it on as many iOS devices that are signed into the apps store with that same Apple ID that made the purchase

One separate question regarding playback - if I am not on the same network, will playback still work?
You need to set up remote access https://support.plex.tv/articles/200289506-remote-access/ Assuming network upload speed is good enough. ( your server may need to be powerful enough to transcode)
