I just recently install tuners (HDHomeRun CONNECT QUATRO) and started trying to use the DVR feature. I have the news set up to record OTA nightly but it’s not. When I select a show to record it works fine, but scheduled recordings (for the news that is on nightly) have not recorded and say “no upcoming airings”?
I had the same problem. I removed “HD Only” and shows started recording (Recordings are HD). Try that please and if that works please let Plex community know so that the developers can fix the bug.
If the HD Only is in fact the reason why the show is not recording that only indicates that the guide data from Gracenote is not flagging the show as HD, not that there is a bug in Plex. If the HD Only is not the issue and the show still does not record then you would need to check the Plex logs to determine why it is not recording.
Yes but aren’t Plex folks the ones that would have to follow-up with Gracenote to get that addressed?
An update.
I mentioned earlier removing “HD Only” did fix my problem partially, but my recordings are in SD now (I was wrong earlier). Also, when I go to recording schedule, all recordings are set to record using SD channels.
I also checked the HD channels in guide and they are properly marked as HD, so doesn’t seem like guide’s issue.
I would think your best bet would be to specify the exact channel you want to record (the HD one) when you’re setting up (or modifying) your recordings.
I was hitting the same issue (“no upcoming airings”) and the same ‘fix’ (changing Advanced -> Resolution -> HD Only to Any) has resolved it.
I’ve also selected a specific HD channel in the ‘Limit to Channel’ setting so hoping to get the result I’m after.
If the problem is how a channel is flagged in the EPG data then this is where things get weird, because if I go to the Guide and then filter to ‘HD Channels Only’ then the channel I selected in the ‘Limit to Channel’ is listed BUT the SD version of the same channel is ALSO listed.
So this seems to indicate that Plex KNOWS that the channel is HD, and yet it doesn’t recognise this when Resolution is set to HD Only.
To my thinking there are 2 bugs here:
- The EPG data flagging an SD channel as HD (AUS - Channel 10)
- The Advanced -> Resolution setting not correctly recognizing HD channels.
For reference, the channels in question are Australia:
- Channel 10 (channel 10)
- Channel 10 HD (channel 13)
I’m currently using PMS Version 1.13.9.5456
My tuner is an HDHomeRun CONNECT Quatro, Model: HDHR5-4DT, Firmware: 20180817
Recently my main Plex server has been experiencing the same issue… However, I was already aware of the issue that has caused the requirement of specifying a channel and avoiding designation of scheduled recordings as “HD Only”. Most if not all my recordings were setup specifying the channel.
My scheduled recordings started disappearing yesterday just
hours before the scheduled recording were set to start.
PMS Version 1.13.9.5456
Synology DSM 6.2.1-23824
SiliconDust HDHomeRun Prime
Yesterday the schedule was light. It was basically just “Mars” S02E01 on National Geographic channel.
Today its:
Cowboys & Aliens
The Conners
The Flash
The Gifted
Blackish
The Guest Book
The entire list of scheduled shows was just wiped. The only schedualed show that remained was the one time recording of the movie Cowboys & Aliens.
Dealing a series recording from the scheduled list and adding it again doesn’t work. Attempting to scedual a recording for a single episode rather then a series doesn’t work. Refreshing the guide doesn’t work. Restarting the server / service doesn’t work. Restarting the Synology server doesn’t work.
Edit:
One thing I have noticed is that the option to specify a channel has been removed from the drop-down list which now only has “Any”. Its almost as if the guide data and or the channel list is being corrupted.
Edit Again:
I fully expect that tomorrows scheduled recording list:
Survivor
Stan Against Evil (2x episodes)
American Horror Story
Will be dumped hours before they are scheduled to commence as well
Glad/not glad to see that others are reporting the same issue, means that it’s not just me. Selecting “HD Only” prevents the scheduler from recording any future episodes, even if they are airing on HD channels. The channel shows up on the guide under the HD list, so it knows the shows are HD, and when I limit the recording to the HD channel it shows that the recording will be in HD, so for now the only way to get this working right is to limit the channel to the HD channel. (This is for Universal Kids HD, channel 1707 on comcast in IL).
There is an issie with HD Only selection for recordings which has already been referred to the development team
There are more issues than just the HD Only issue. For me, recordings are listed properly on the Recordings page but do not show as being recorded in the Guide. Also, I am no longer able to limit a series recording to a specific channel. The only option in the dropdown now is Any.
I would add that the shows do get recorded even though the guide does not show them as being recorded.
I have the same problem. I have a number of shows scheduled for daily recording. The entire list of shows is gone for today. However they are scheduled for Monday. I have all my recordings set for any resolution, so this is not an HD-only issue.
In the last week or so there has been a guide refresh issue and some requests to our guide metadata provider has been failing and result in gaps in the guide, There are several forum threads on the subject, We had notification of the issue being fixed on the 14th November - but there has been one reported case of a failure since - so may be not completely fixed. See this post EPG fails to update and there is also a banner on the forum pages
Plex Media Server 1.14.1.5487 has just been released as Beta. It has a fix for the HD Only issue where it gets ignored when selected for scheduled recordings

- (DVR) Recordings could be missed when the ‘HD only’ setting was selected (#9226)
I have a similar issue. I have a season pass for WXII news 6PM (NBC local greensboro NC) and Sunday 6PM wasn’t recording. Then I scheduled a season pass for it again , next thing I see it says I have no upcoming recording. (its on every nite) Very frustrated. I deleted the extra season passes and seem like its coming back, but don’t know why Sunday 6PM doesnt record?
Another instance, I selected a season pass for Bing Bang theory, new and repeats, 2 episodes in the guide tonight at 8 and 8:30PM on CBS, only the second is scheduled. (I have new and repeat option, and don’t limit to HD) I just bought a plex pass lifetime this past weekend and I am getting these crappy issues, doesn’t seem like scheduled recordings will reliably happen!
Another instance, I also had a season pass for America’s Funnies Videos, Sunday night (last night) it said for upcoming recordings listed next weeks episodes, but not this week episode. (I have new and repeat option, and don’t limit to HD) I tried to manually start recording it once it started, but this morning when I look it didn’t record it.
Thanks for the info - but to look into it, would need details as you have given with times but also Plex Media Server debug logs covering period when the recording is scheduled and when it is supposed to start and also after time it is supposed to stop recording. If logs wrap round quickly, may need to download two sets of the server logs - one at time of start of the program and one a couple of minutes after it finishes
To ensure debug logging is enabled see https://support.plex.tv/articles/201643703-reporting-issues-with-plex-media-server/
To download logs see https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/
Please also include screenshots of the recording options and also if you have enabled any at the DVR settings level (a new feature)
