Just upgraded to PlexMediaServer-1.16.1.1246-1d09ac057-FreeBSD-amd64 running on Freenas 11.2 in a jail.
DVR is HDHomerun Prime hooked up to Comcast in the Seattle, WA area. The lineup has both HD and SD versions of most channels.
I recreated the DVR after upgrade as suggested on forums.
I’m observing a failure of the ‘Prefer HD’ vs ‘HD Only’ option.
If I choose ‘Prefer HD’, the system will always record shows in SD.
If I choose ‘HD only’, the system will not record at all, indicating that no shows are scheduled.
The only way to successfully record HD is to force the recording based on channel number.
Debug logs are attached with the following actions.
Attempt to record ‘Mom’ off HD channel 640 (PARPHD) using ‘Prefer HD’ instead records from channel 57 (PARP SD)
Attempt to record ‘Forensic Files’ off HD channel 648(HLNHD) using ‘HD only’ results in no recording. No errors in the gui, it just doesn’t seem to schedule.
Recording ‘The Dead Files’ off HD channel 654 using ‘Prefer HD’, but forcing the channel 654 results in the proper HD recording from this channel. Plex Media Server Logs_2019-06-20_18-11-22.zip (248.7 KB)
I’m pretty sure that this was working properly (‘HD only’ would allow recordings from HD channels) in 1.16.0.1220.
Could be a programming bug or incorrect data in the guide feed. Is guide info rather than channel settings used to determine if a show is HD?
FWIW, the relevant channels in the 600’s are marked as ‘HD’ in the ‘Manage Channels’ window under the DVR configuration.
Similar story in the UK - have noted that Prefer HD will pick SD channels and HD only simply does not record. Bit gutted to have missed program recording, however, at least I have other catch-up services. That is not the point. This does need rectification.
Adding my “me too.” Scheduled as HD only and nothing is being recorded. I’m going to fall back to working version and wait until they quit pushing alpha software on paying customers.
This is bad! I’ve just tried the new version server and as the others have said HD only recording doesn’t work. I’m in the UK too and I’ve now had to remove my plex server from my NAS so that I can use the previous version. I strongly suggest that Plex gets it’s collective finger out and rectifies this problem ASAP.
Thank you for reporting this issue. The problem is that the airings themselves are not marked as HD, so PMS thinks they are all equal and just chooses one to record. This is a bug in our new EPG provider and we are working on a fix.
@emilybersin - I had a feeling that was the case.
Feature request: Add a switch in the PMS DVR settings that allows listings to inherit the HD status from the DVR channel config. This gives the user more control to define which channels are HD. Sure, it might record upscaled SD material, but that seems preferable to missing HD recordings.
I think that more testing time is needed before closing out the old EPG system, considering the problems encountered.
I don’t know if this is the same issue I am experiencing, but I have show young & the restless scheduled, it shows on the guide, but on my recordings it no longer shows any airings.
I have tried cancelling and re-scheduling it multiple times, as well as multiple guide refreshes.
@sa2000 - there are some airings that do show as HD after a manual refresh. However, there are quite a few that do not.
Just to be sure, I deleted and re-added the DVR, and I’m still seeing many HD programs listed as SD. It does seem to be clustered by channel. For example: FXHD has shows listed as HD. while FXXHD still has shows listed as SD.
Yes it could be - but extra detail would be needed as the HD/SD indicator is based on the actual airing - so in addition to post code and lineup, would also need channel name and number, program / episode / date and time and which timezone that is in
I would suggest both methods of reporting - the form as well as posting here
Your previous screenshot showed the episode as being “2019 E1” - Corrections for this were being done in the background - it is unlikely to be the disabling of the Enhanced Guide pref and more likely that you did an EPG refresh that fixed the episode info
I’m now seeing a failure to schedule for shows that have completely correct episode # data.
This is for the Seattle, WA, USA area (zip code 98103), Pacific time.
Case #1 is Archer (new episode) on channel 618 FXXHD that aired last night. for some reason, it didn’t record any of the showings and wasn’t recognizing the 3 reruns. For a while, it was showing no reruns available, however, the guide now shows that there will be a rerun on Sunday.
Case #2 (reproducible) is Star Trek Enterprise on channel 116 KVOSHD that airs every night at midnight.
If I tell Plex to record a specific showing, it will set up a record rule and then ignore that showing and indicate that the next showing is next Monday.
Log attached. Plex Media Server Logs_2019-06-27_13-03-26.zip (207.0 KB)
As I mentioned in another thread - KVOSHD also has a bug that doesn’t allow me to select the channel to record from - thought fixed, but then behavior reverted.
I’m also seeing a similar problem with ‘Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD’. There’s a new episode tomorrow (6/28) that isn’t included in my current schedule. If I try to record that, it generates a new recording rule but does NOT actually schedule that episode for recording. I’ll try to delete and re-add the dvr.
