With plex-web version 4.49.1 the default home hub On Deck been replaced with Continue Watching. Why ?
To show visually … this clean home hub …

has been replaced with this crap …
Please say this is a mistake ? It’s such a stupid change !

On the home screen, select the pencil/edit button (just left of the slider for cover art size).
That should bring up the “Edit Home Screen” window.
Choose “Disable (Manually Manage)”
The Home Screen will refresh. You should now see “On Deck.”
Select the Pencil/Edit button again. You can re-order or remove what is displayed on the Home Screen.
@FordGuy61 yes and thanks, I know I can do that but that its not what I asked.
I asked Why has this been changed to be the default ?
If this change is ultimately rolled out to all apps across all devices then each device will need this pencil/edit change.
Gotcha.
Maybe it is a bug. I did not see anything relevant mentioned in the Plex Web release notes.
Hopefully a Plex employee/ninja/team member/etc can shed some light on things.
Cheers.
@FordGuy61 agreed – IMO this must be a bug as its such a stupid thing to change.
However you just never know as some of the UX changes plex have rolled out to us in the last year have really left me scratching my head!
This shocked me a bit today as well…
I prefer it honestly. Mainly I think it’s pointless to separate on deck and continue watching. It’s essentially the same thing. And sorry, but ‘on deck’ sounds stupid. Just call it ‘up next’.
Edit to add: I hope they use the series background and not the episode poster. At least with the current UI so it’s easy to know what it is without reading the paragraph of text that’s under every single item on screen.
@ronnyc I disagree.
On Deck – is a series you are watching but have completely finished the last previous episode
Continue Watching – is an episode you are watching but have not yet finished
Completely different and always have been.
That’s not my point. If a user didn’t actually know these details they’d have no clue as to what the difference is because the two titles can read as the same thing. It’s confusing and pointless. Especially since unfinished episodes also show in on deck. Just add partially watched movies to that same hub and bam, you just simplified the UI.
More text cause I hit the wrong reply button lol
Continue Watching is, for me at least, less often used compared with On Deck. I tend to watch mostly tv series and complete episodes Continue Watching typically only has a couple of movies in it, so Continue Watching is completely useless when I sit down to start watching the next episode of the tv series I’m watching.
I had this absurdity happen to me as well this morning. Thought it was just the work PC, but NOOOO… the home PC decided it wanted to be a butt too…
I hope this was a bug and they change it back. I understand I can change it on my side but changing it on every client will be quite annoying. I much prefer the On Deck with the show art instead of the episode thumbnail.
I have the same issue. Hope this is a bug!
Fixed as per -> Plex Web (thanks)
