They should be separate. When changing one it changes the other, makes no sense. I don’t want the whole server on Always Enabled for Subtitles, just my account.
Could you share some more details on what you experience?
I suppose you’ve set your preferred audio/subtitle language via https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/account > Audio & Subtitle Settings
?
This should indeed be a per-account setting and apply for all clients used with your account.
What other language setting is being overwritten?!
The only other language related settings I could find are related to the user interface (e.g. https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/web/general > Language
). This however won’t impact the language selected for playback…
When I edit any of the settings via https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/account > Audio & Subtitle Settings
and refresh the page, then go to my “Languages” tab on my server it is the same exact settings. Also works the other way too.
I tried turning everything off and re-enabling it only on my account by going to https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/account > Audio & Subtitle Settings
and it still switches it in “Languages” tab on the server and it still happens to sync. Tried multiple devices/browsers same thing.
My main goal is to have “Subtitle mode” on “Manually Selected” for the whole server and my account “Always Enabled”
got it.
in fairness… I believe the Server > Languages
setting is more of a zombie. In particular as the actual language setting is located in the account settings.
I’ll ask some of the Plex guys…
You should warm to the idea that there’s no “overall server language” for audio. This is supposed to be a per-account setting.
Official feedback:
This is indeed an artifact/redundant…
If you’re logged in with a Plex Account, both areas will show the same setting.
At the moment, Plex keeps Settings > Languages
for users who run their server without a Plex Account.
Thank you!
So, user subtitle settings will always take priority over the server subtitle settings, even though I have it always enabled for my account which technically is enabled for the whole server, right?
it’s not actually prioritized… it’s the same setting – just displayed differently in different sections of the Plex settings.
Makes sense now. Just confusing as it’s in two different spots. Thank you!
