Why is new app saying I am offline when I am not?

I’ve been having this issue for months. Pixel 2 XL and I am enrolled in the beta program. It’s not TERRIBLE because the way to fix it is close and re-open the app.

I think Plex is having some back end issues determining the network and if it can do a secure connection or not. I know I’ve had a lot of issues in the past with the android app doing Plex Relay when it was connected to my local freaking network.

So yeah if you see this on android, close Plex, and re-open it and it should work. At least it works for me. I just wish I did not have to do this. FIX IT GUYS!

So I built a new AMD system, 2700X 32GB of RAM, I went all out. Did a FRESH install of Plex and READDED everything, I didn’t want any thing that might corrupt it. It took forever of course, but it was gonna be worth, you’ll see!! I told myself. Well. … If I’m sittting at my computer, I can log into chrome and see my server is up, everything is there, metadata you name it, I can even play it flawlessly.

I can’t on my Roku TV. I can’t on my LG G6. I’m the ruler of this server and my home network and I can’t get it to play while logged in to the apps as myself. You know who can though? My wife, who is listed as a managed user. My kid that is 20 miles away. He can log into the server and watch. Not me tho. Not the guy that pays for the plex pass religiously for the last 3 years. Not the guy that spends hours making sure it’s updated and running smoothly. Nope. I can’t log into my own server from any device and use it. At all. It says I’m not connected, to please try again on both the Roku and the App on my phone. Everything is updated. There is not a single thing that you can tell me to try that I haven’t and yet…

Fix this. You might not miss me when I’m gone, but I can’t keep using this when I can’t even log into my own server from my own devices. I’m just not gonna do this. I shouldn’t have to. I should have to do you work for you either. I’ve spent 5 hours over the course of the last days TS this and I’m not doing this anymore. Fix it Fix it Fix it!!!

It does fix the issue when you do that, but after 10 or so seconds it goes offline again. This is getting ridiculous.

I uninstalled the app on my iPad ,then I restarted my iPad , then reinstalled Plex. Don’t open it! Do another restart. Seems to be working so far.

Happening on Android 7.9.0.8439.

Furthermore, app refuses to use direct connection to server on same LAN.

You might want to find an Android specific thread to post to…

Same issue but I can fix it by changing the profil on Plex (happening on Android) Weird…

What a weird thing. I switched to a family member’s profile, then switched back to my profile and the disconnection issues seem to have stopped. This is on iOS.

Same here, pixel 2 xl and it’s a nightmare. I sent logs and logs on logs to the devs and they couldn’t even see the issue. Pretty frustrating

Every time we get an update, I get to see what cool feature they have added to the platform that I will never use or care about. And it always seems to be at the expense of some other working feature like syncing media or being able to use the app. This problem has been plaguing me for months.

The only way I have found to get around it is by deleting the app, delete the device from the serve and start the process all over again. This is clearly not a long-term fix as it’s the 4th time I’ve had to do it.

Has this ever gotten resolved?! I think it’s time to find a new service. Get your s together!!!

This issue is still not fixed. Unlike many other users here, my profile as the account owner works fine. All of my kids, in the same house, on the same network, are “offline” according to iOS app, and Android apps. If I log into my profile, no issues at all. But for managed users with content restrictions, it doesn’t work right.

This is stupid. As someone who paid for a lifetime pass when Plex was a fledgling unknown, I’m at my wits end with the constant crap builds, and breaking of functionality that worked for years, until they decided to change the UI. Your developers must really be horrible at their jobs. I’ve worked in software for almost 20 years now, and we’ve never broken our core functionality to introduce “new features” that no one wants or uses.

On my android app, after rebuilding my server, the home screen sections all said offline. After reading about the first 5p replies in this thread, I gave up and was about to try reinstalling the app. However before doing that, I clicked the option at the bottom to manage the home screen. I picked to reset to defaults and everything appeared again.

reset to defaults on the home screen also fixed it for me.

This issue has happened to me over the weekend, multiple Android devices as well as all 3 of my Apple TV 4’s. I have done everything anyone has suggested in this thread. when will this be resolved?

It think you’ve got a completely different issue going on than what is being discussed in this thread, which is limited to mobile devices.

If you’re having issues with everything connecting to your Plex server, I suggest you start a new thread and include:

OS that PMS is running on
PMS version number
Devices and app version number where you’re seeing this

how is it different? 4 android phones… same thing as all the other users, sometimes refreshing or logging out sometimes fixes it… IOS for apple devices are usually connected over mobile devices and the same error appears and the same “refresh or logout and log back in again gets it working for 5 min then it goes off line…also same thing as above with the main account connecting"ok” but user accounts getting the offline error as above.

Because you mentioned Apple TVs which aren’t truly mobile devices, run tvOS (similar but not the same as iOS).

Are any devices able to connect to your server?

I’m getting the same, repeatedly offline, is there a fix yet Plex?

Seems its been an issue for while now and no progress, some of us are paying for this remember.

I just experienced this issue while traveling this weekend. I assumed it was actually a problem with my Plex server until I got home and saw it was still up and I could connect via my Amazon Fire TV and also from a web browser (which I didn’t try while traveling).

I then tried stopping/re-starting the app, power cycling the iphone and a few other things people tried on here. This was on IOS 12.1.2.

In my case simply deleting the plex app and re-installing corrected the issue.
