I’ve been using My plex server to surface saved podcast episodes. They are simple MP3 files that I have grouped in folders and using album names sort them by month. All of this works as expected.
What doesn’t work as expected and hasn’t since I started using plex music (a year ago) is reliable playback of these files. These issues are not specific to just a single type of device. It’s happening on all my phones as well as my chromecast devices.
You can playback a file from the start. But it often looses track of what’s it’s playing, plex stops reporting progress, but the audio is still playing in the background somewhere.
Other times the audio will just stop, if I go back to click play, it then restarts the file and this is most frustrating because a 2-3hr file you now have no idea where you were.
Basically playback of audio files in the music section is unreliable at best.
I can’t help but feel these issues are so obvious, I’m not the only one having them. I did search and see what others are saying and I think it others complaining about the same issue(s).
I did download Hi-Fi Cast and its working exactly like I would expect plex to.
But I did pay for a lifetime subscription and feel like these problems should have been addressed by now. Please advise if you happen to know if these will be addressed or if I should just abandon Plex media server for Audio.
I’ve not experienced these problems. You’re a plexpass user, Do you have the same problems using Plexamp? I’ve found plexamp does a much better job playing audio then Plex. I really only use Plex to add new music, adjust meta data, and watch video.
Thanks for the quick reply! This is the first time I’ve actually heard of Plexamp. Loved WinAmp decades ago lol I’ll go see if I can find it and try it out. Thanks!
Thank you ohh so much! Just installed plexamp and this is even better then Hi-Fi cast, because I can access the content remotely. You’ve saved lots of headaches, Thanks again.
All That said, I really wish Plex would just fix music playback from within the plex app(s). I’m here ready and waiting to post videos and logs of my experience when they decide they want to fix it.
I have also found music playback via the Plex app on my phone unreliable and switched to Plexamp a while ago.
Even on my PC I get occasional music playback issues (drops and stutter) with Plex when some other background activity is happening. Switching to Plexamp there also fixed it.
I don’t really find the Plexamp UI superior to the Plex app. But the music playback works much better. Makes me wonder why both apps don’t use the same playback engine implementation…
Thank you for confirming my issues are not isolated to me. Hopefully that means they will address it someday.
I too agree with you, the plexamp implementation is better and its working as one would expect. Plex app should use the same implementation.
Plexamp is manageable, but I do like having one app for all of my content. Also makes it easier when inviting family and friends. I prefer not to tell them to download multiple apps, but I digress.
