Why is there no direct play option for Plex Android TV Mibox

Player Version#: 7.27.0.15018

Hi, I was wondering why there is no direct play option in the settings for the mibox plex android tv app? The reason I ask is that I am able to play all files direct with no issue on the TV plex app and kodi addon but the Mibox Plex app is nothing short of terrible. It is slow and doesnt allow 4K pllayback. As mentioned, all others do (including kodi addon also on the mibox) Why would an addon INSIDE kodi work better than your own standalone app? Anyway, all I get when trying 4K movies is the ERROR - Playback has stopped because the connection to the Media Server has been lost. Please ensure the server is available and retry.
I have set under Video settings:
Adjust automatically - Off
Home and remote streaming - Maximum

Advanced:
Refresh rate switching: off
Resolution switching: off

There are NO other options in settings. None of the awesome “Allow 4k” “Allow direct play” or any of the other useful options in other versions of your software.

Please help.

try turning off the new player in the plex settings on the mibox and see if it works with the old player (it may do)

The Kodi plugin is using Kodi’s player.

It always tries to direct play if it can, transcoding is a fall back depening on what the device or things it it attached to tell it that it can play. Make sure you have passthrough enabled and set to what you actually have for example.

That error generally means it was not receiving the stream fast enough. But you can look at the android app logs when the error appears to see what it was doing before the error.

Well hot digity that might of done it. Not sure why a “NEW IMPROVED” player would be terrible… but turning that off has certainly helped for now. Thank you kind stranger.

Can confirm it is the “Enable new player” option. Turned it on … error. Turn it off, it’s all good. Turned it on and created this log for you.

The Mibox is actually awesome. It seems to be Plex that is the problem.

you are not the only one struggling with the mibox and the new player unfortuantly, its not just you, but glad its working now until it gets fixed.
