I just added a new show, and I don’t like the picture it finds for it, so I grabbed a better one, and episodes 1 - 4 show up with the new image grouped together fine, but episode 5, named in the same format as 1 - 4, and put into the same folder of show/season # shows up separately with the picture I don’t like, and there’s no way to fix it, there’s no fix match, there’s nothing to let me tell Plex that it’s wrong. Am I missing something?
It doesn’t matter that it is the same format, if it’s the wrong format.
- Look up your show on TheTVDB
- Take the title as it is used on TheTVDB.
If there is something in parentheses, take that too.
If the title contains invalid characters (depends on your file system), like§ : % *
, simply leave them out. - Check the naming and the folder structure of your show.
Name the top folder of the show exactly after the title on TheTVDB.
No abbreviations. No additional subfolders. No aliases.
Add the (year) in parentheses of when episode 1 of season 1 of this show was aired. - Name the episode files according to the above linked naming guide.
Use the same title as for the top folder.Show's Title (year) - s01e01 - additional info.ext
(‘- additional info’ can be left out) - After you corrected the naming and folder structure, perform the Plex Dance with all files for this show.
You have to do the fix match on the main show, not the individual episode I believe.
That’s indeed the case. But I recommend to avoid Fix Match as long as possible and try first to go fully compliant with folder structure and file naming.
It saves so much hassle in the long run.
Sorry I’ve been super busy.
As listed above, I have the correct naming and folder structure, I’ve been doing this for a while now. The show name is 1 word. The show is found, as the correct show, it just picks an image I don’t like, so I change the image for the show, and the next episode in the series I add will add as a new show, with the picture I don’t like. It makes no sense, and there’s no option anywhere in Plex to fix it.
Same issue and it doesn’t seem to be file names. I have 9 seasons of Two and A Half Men. Plex shows Season 1 episode 1, Season 2 Episode 2, Season 3 Episode 3 and so forth (so only 9 episodes total). After using Filebot, I still have the issue. I’m wondering after the pages and pages upon pages of people reporting this issue if PLEX will ever be able to fix it.
Simply “using Filebot” is not enough.
- you have to tell Filebot that you are using Plex. Otherwise it will use the Kodi nomenclature by default. Filebot
- after your files already have been mismatched, you’ll have to perform the Plex Dance after renaming them
So, for closure, I wanted to post back and let everyone know that I figured it out. Since it was a new show I was adding, it would come up as 5 shows recently added, all grouped together, on the main Plex page. I would click the little pencil icon for the show, and choose the poster image I wanted, but apparently I was only changing the poster for that group of shows. When the new show would be added, it would show up with the poster I didn’t want because I wasn’t actually changing the poster for the show, just the group of episodes that were newly added. I went into the actual show and saw it was still using the poster I didn’t like, but it showed the correct episode count. Once I changed the SHOW’s poster, everything worked as expected.
