Why isn’t search working on iOS?

Since the big upgrade I can no longer search metadata for anything other than film titles. Ie, search for “Badlands” finds the movie; search for “Humphrey Bogart” asks me for a “source“ (movies/living room), then just dumps me back in my library. No results. So far the new Plex is a big step back. Please fix this.

What are your search settings set to? Just want to try to reproduce.

Two things to note here as I both tested this myself and checked with a few people on this topic. My guess is that you have “More Ways To Watch” disabled on your device. You can check that by hitting the little source selector icon in the top right of the search page on your phone. When this is disabled, it disables general “people search” and will only return results with that person from a server. That is why it is asking you for a “source” since it wants to know what server/library you are trying to get that information from.

I can also confirm that we have a bug there - it should not dump you out onto the library page but should show you as filtered view for that library with just the titles with that person in them. That bug has been worked on and should make it into an upcoming build.

TL;DR; if you want search results to show results for what we call “people pages” (i.e. Humphrey Bogart and everything that person has appeared in) you will need to enable the “More Ways To Watch” setting in sources. However, if you want to see a filtered list in a specific library from that search (as it worked previously) please wait for a week or two for that change to roll out in an upcoming release.

That was the problem. Thanks for the tip.

:success_kid: Nice! I get lucky every once in a while! Glad this helped!!
