I have the same problem, only happens on Android phones
Plex will usually restrict the playback quality options to those in line with your setup and current stream; e.g. based on
- source resolution and bitrate – keep in mind that the max. bitrate can be significantly higher than that the file’s average bitrate.
- remote access bitrate restrictions (either based on your ISP’s internet upload bandwidth or an applied remote stream bitrate limit)
- in case of a poor remote access configuration, the 1 Mbps bitrate restriction of a relayed connection could kick in (2 Mbps for Plex Pass members)
In case of ipalm’s screenshots it appears that #1 is not a limiting factor and higher resolutio/bitrate options should be available. So best check the other limiting factors.
Ok. I don’t know much about much, I do have Plex pass, could you tell me how to troubleshoot options two and three?
Edit - my experience is similar to the others, it only happens on android. Is there a particular symptom that would affect Android and not iOS or fire stick?
My iphone ipad does not have this problem, it only appears on Android devices and the video is 1080p, but some 4k videos can appear 1080p option
I’ve posted before about a similar issue on Roku with 4K video. Multiple 4K options, multiple 720p and lower options … but no 1080p options.
This is a 4K-capable Roku, on the LAN, no bandwidth restrictions.
Could you please tell us how to troubleshoot numbers two and three
There’s a guide with some instructions on how to troubleshoot remote access configurations and issues.
