Windows 7 and PlexConnect not working

I am trying to install PlexConnect on a computer with Windows 7. I downloaded the zip file from git hub and downloaded python version 2.7 since the instructions on git hub said the version 3 would not work. Every time I open the "PlexConnect.py" file it opens a Python window and I see a few lines of text but it window closes immediately so I can't read the text. I've tried opening it several times but the same thing happens. If anyone has any ideas of what to do I would appreciate it.

...please check and/or attach the file 'PlexConnect.log', which should be geenrated in your current directory.

i have the same problem:

Are you hitting the enter button after opening the .py file? If so you are shutting it down.

I think you forgot to put the number of valid DNS server in scirpt! The DNS IP is returning 8.8.8.8 (default blanc script)

Download the latest version of the Plexcannect and change the lines of IP DNS and PlexServer in this case is "10.0.0.4".

Good luck! ;)

I don't think anything was created, and I don't press enter when opening it.

"Rock Star" is the title, Baa is the name. Don't know how I got that title, must be somehow north of 500 msgs...

How is that the same issue, when hnrabe has no chance to read, let alone copy the terminal content?

>> I think you forgot to put the number of valid DNS server in scirpt! The DNS IP is returning 8.8.8.8 (default blanc script)
No... 8.8.8.8 is fine. It is the google main DNS.
Don't point it to your own computer, this DNS server is used for external, otherwise unsolved requests.
If you want to change it... set it to your own router or your ISP's DNS.

We have to know what is going on...

Try the following:

- open the "cmd" prompt manually

- "cd" to the folder where PlexConnect is stored

- type "python PlexConnect.py"

...having the window open should prevent the disappearing text. Please sent the window content, my guess is, you are missing some files.

It does seem some people are downloading some of the files rather than the zip file, containing everything, linked in the install guide.

Hi Baa,

In my case I put the DNS of my ISP, (in Brazil) and run fine. But is 8.8.8.8 is OK, forget it!

Please read the sticky, especially the link on how to report a problem.

I had the same problem as the original post. Double click on PlexConnect.py and a cmd window would open briefly show some text and close.

Turns out that I had put the PlexConnect files into a folder under C:\Program FIles\PlexConnect. This was set to read only somehow. By oing the files to another folder (D:\PlexConnect) I was then able to run it.

I also had to add python to the windows Path, as it wasnt there automatically.

Hope this helps others.

I ran into the same issue.  Tried running it from the command prompt and received the following output:

Bad python version... most likely doesn't support string.format().

What python version do you run? 2.5.x?

What python version do you run? 2.5.x?

Running 3.3.2

3.x is not supported if you check the install guide.

Download 2.7

Download 2.7

You are right, I guess I skipped over that part in the installation guide since I was eager to get it running.  I uninstalled 3.3.2 and installed 2.7.5.  It didn't work from my c:, I received the following error:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Connect\PlexConnect-XML_templates>plexconnect.py
Traceback (most recent call last):

IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: 'C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Plex\\Plex Connect\\PlexConnect-XML_templates\\PlexConnect.log'

But if I run it from a mount drive (Z:), then it works perfect.  This is fine with me, just thought I would mention it for the others.  Thanks for the help.
