Have you had Plex installed for a while on this Mac and updated regularly?

I am running MacOS 11.4 and latest Beta of PMS without any crashes

I have had Plex on the server for years and updated it as soon as the update became available. I always do this . I am having the same problem with another server with the same software running on windows with the same version. The only one that is still working is the one on the Unraid server. All are using different file paths but all have the latest OS fixes.

Here is the download of the logs

All server have been set to send crash logs to Plex Team.

If you have had a previous version that works for you, follow these instructions to roll back on Mac

For windows. Thanks to Otto.

I believe in this case it might even be easier to “roll back” as there seem to be already 5 other versions of PMS in the app folder

@Bkarat : would you mind removing/renaming the following folder to see if this solves your issue?
/Volumes/Data/Music/Unknown/「やさしい竜の殺し方3」

From the looks of it, your server performs a scan and immediately crashes when it starts processing this file/folder. – So if the server keeps running without that file/folder, it’ll help pin down the actual root cause.

Thanks for the log. I’ve tracked down the issue which is limited to the 1.23.3 release.

A fix will be made for this before the release goes public. To avoid the issue you can remain on the public 1.23.2 release.

I too have been having this issue. Just installed Plex about 7 days or so ago moving from a Linux based Virtual machine install, to a Physical Windows 10 installation. I migrated everything OK it seemed and then it started to crash out of nowhere.

As was stated, it looks like it could be a file that’s got some incorrect characters that is causing the scanning to die and in turn kill of the Plex server.

I’ve got Extra Features enabled with Plex Pass and I believe Beta Features enabled as well.

The auto-log-upload is online too and I can see it’s sending after each crash. Attached is the latest logs from when it stopped which was at 11:02 AM EST.

I meant to add, since it’s a new fresh install, I didn’t see anything in updates to roll back to. Not a huge deal, will wait for the fix, but figured I’d add my logs to help out.

Thanks!

Just upgraded the server again to the just released software version and will see if this fixes the problem. Version 1.23.4706

The fix isn’t in this release.

To reply to my own, I believe I’ve found a way to stop the crashing. I’ve disabled any type of automatic Library searching. Since then, it’s appearing to stay online and run stable the past few hours. May help others.

This was done in Server Settings → Settings → Library

  • Scan My Library (unchecked)
  • Run Partial Scan (unchecked)
  • Scan My Library Periodically (unchecked)

I’m now running the latest version 1.23.3.4706 with the above tweaks and it’s OK.

It that case change your update preference to public and manually download from

I am having this instability issue on my mac with Plex Server 1.23.3.4707. Has this issue been addressed or do I have a new issue of instability?

Thanks.

I have not any instability issues but please forward your setup details. Like model Mac and what you describe as unstable.

iMac Pro 2017, 3.2 GHz 8-core Xeon W, 32 GB ram, Radeon Pro Vega 56 with 8GB ram. Library is stored on a Drobo 5dt. Attached are my Plex logs.

So… what stability issues do you experience?
From your logs the server seems to be running mostly ok (except for a few network timeouts)

The Plex server just crashes once or twice a day. It started after I update about three weeks ago. I also don’t really see anything in the logs either. Kind of at a lost of what could be the problem so I started searching the forums and ended up here.
