Windows app activation not being recognized

I made the in app purchase or Plex for windows 10 but when i try to activate it, it says It cant activate because I do bot gave a plex-pass account. What was the $4.99 for?

I’m not sure I understand your phrase (ā€œit says It cant activate because I do bot gave a plex-pass accountā€). Can you please revise it? In any case, the $4.99 serve to unlock some limits of the free app (1 minute video playback of remote content, etc)

Im sorry. I installed the Plex app on my windows 10 computer. I signed into my plex account and I am able to see my server. When I try to play anything it limits me to 1 minute. I made the in app purchase to activate the app. Now when I try to play a video it shows the sign in or purchase screen. I try to sign in and it says "The current account does not have an active Plex Pass, so the app will not be activated. I have the confirmation from Paypal that I was charged for the app. I didnt know I needed a Plex Pass, I thought I just had to purchase the App. I am still limited to 1 minute

@Andycabs2 What happens if you try play something then instead of logging in, click to buy the IAP. Don’t press the final button in the store to make the payment, but when you get to the store it should realize you already have bought the IAP.

@Andycabs2: you don’t need a Plex Pass to remove the 1-minute limitation, the IAP will do just that. It just seems that the purchase is not being recognized when we ask the Windows Store about it. Can you forward me the invoice that Microsoft sent you?

Sent an e-mail with requested info to pedro@plex.tv

I purchased the Plex app ($4.99) through the windows store in 2014 and have had no issues using it until the recent update. It is now requesting that I activate it and pay $5.49 to use it. Can you please help me understand how I get it to recognise that I have already purchased it. Thanks.

No worries. A simple uninstall and reinstall fixed the issue.

Hi @blark, are you running Windows 10 Anniversary Update on that machine, by any chance?

I’ve been having issues on and off for a while with the Plex app (Windows 10 AU). I couldn’t even get it to activate earlier and i found i had to run wsreset.exe to clear the store cache to fix it, but even then I keep usually during my first boot being told my product isn’t activated, and i have to press the activate now button for money, but instead of charging me it says its already unlocked. Any chance you guys could look into sorting that issue?

@Calmcacil Sure. I’ve changed the app to use a newer API to talk to the Windows Store in hopes that it would fix these activation issues. Therefore, it would be very helpful if you could go to Settings/Advanced/Email diagnostics and send me the logs, so I can examine where it is failing.

Has this started happening. My laptop no longer recognises the player activation. i can log into the account and browse my server. However I am limited to 1 min play time. This has happened out of the blue after months of problem free playback.

Cheers,
David

@gloriaisgary can you please forward me your Windows Store receipt?

Activated Plex application on my Microsoft account on Dell computer. Plex application on same MS account on Surface Pro is also unlocked, as expected. Plex application on this same Surface Pro but a different MS account is still locked, requesting activation. Is this expected behaviour? App must be unlocked for each MS user?

Yes, an app purchase is managed by the Windows Store and is tied to the Windows Store account.

Hi I bought an activation for Windows 10 and still showing as not activated . Order f483f216-8c9f-4718-898d-dcfcfac80eae can you please activate

I also purchased plex pass last week via app store in win 10 anniversary. App seemed to be working ok but not seeing plex pass applied to account. It’s probably better, i assume, to not deal with the app store and handle the subscription direct through Plex ey? … i’ll pm you a screen shot of receipt.

@sfreehill what you purchased is an app license (a one time payment managed by each app store), not to be confused to Plex Pass (a subscription that is managed by Plex).

@stefanmcnee can you please PM me your purchase receipt?
