Windows Media center format, Change naming to Plex compatable

I have several years of recordings from a Ceton Tuner the name format that windows used is not compatible with plex, it understandable since it’s just (channel, date, time, show name) does anyone know of a reasonable way to identify the exact season and episode of the files? This is the only thing keeping me from renaming them! I guess a database that can tell me what episode aired on a certain channel at a certain time could work? Unless there’s a app than can decipher it for me like Media Center used to.

filebot, the current versions are pay versions, however, you can search for “Filebot Old Portable Edition” and it’s out there, just ignore the upgrade thing… From here you can load the show, right click and search tvdb, and the right click again and set the naming convention, there’s a pre-built plex one in there already, though your folder for TV/Series needs to be TV Shows in order for that to work correctly, otherwise you can just mimic it with either the top choice or the second choice I think

Thanks will give it a try.

Another option specific to Media Center: wtv-metarenamer. It’s not an easy-to-use program (it’s all command line), but it can pull the metadata from the WTV recording, compare it to TVDB, and rename stuff for you, including separating stuff into folders.

It’s not actively maintained anymore, thanks to the status of Media Center (I’m not even 100% sure it still works), but if you’re desperate and up for learning it, it could be an option for you. I don’t believe Filebot can pull metadata from WTV, so it may have limitations there.

It was my go-to option for the last few years of Media Center, and it worked well to get stuff sorted properly into Plex.

Yeah I tried filebot it works but was only about 1% accurate, some shows I can watch briefly and figure out what they are that’s not ideal, I will try this I have about 5 terabytes of WTV shows to rename :(. I was thinking of firing up mediacenter on a old laptop and see if the data can still be pulled? I’m not sure if M$ shut it down yet?
